Car Warranty Help???

I am purchasing a 2004 Dodge Intrepid and I want to get an extended warranty. I have spoke to my credit union and another lender and the costs seems very expensive. The quotes are as followed.

36 month or 36,000 mile warranty bumper to bumper $1937.00
24 month or 24,000 mile warranty bumper to bumper $1435.00
12 month or 12,000 mile warranty bumper to bumper $1031.00


Does this sound to high? Do anyone know of any warranty companies I should check with? Thanks in advance!

Is the car still under factory warranty? If so, you may be able to purchase a factory warranty extension from your local Dodge dealer.

Check the fine print; look to see what's covered, and more importantly, what's NOT covered. If you can negotiate the 3/36 to about a grand, and the coverage is decent, then I'd say it's OK. The cost of the warrranty is about half of the retail pricing, so there's always room to negotiate.

That is very true. When I bought my Silverado in 04 the dealer quoted me 2000.00 for the ext. warranty. I was able to talk them down to 1250.00 on it. Just go in there with an iron face...lol

Those prices sound about right. I'm not 100% for sure but unless you are buying that car from a dealer than you cant cut a deal. You should be able to finance that in with your payment which helps take the sting out a little unless you're already maxed out on the amount as it is. Just remember it aint cheap to replace a tranny and there's a lot of other big ticket stuff that could go wrong so that premium could pay for itself further on down the road.

Those prices are about in linefor Florida anyhow. The milage on your car can have a big effect. Higher miles = higher cost. You might try your auto insurance comapny as well.

remeber, most warranties only cover the specifically listed parts, so read it closely.

Often extended warranties can have healthy deductibles. Knock at least a third off the price and read the fine print. Make sure you can take the car to automotive repair places that you want and not where they demand you take it. A lot of incidentals not covered in some of them that can be very expensive. (Head Gaskets)

A good friend of mine's wife is the Finance manager at a big dealership. Extended warranties are like pure profit for her. She brings home over $25K a month

When i purchased a new 2002 dodge diesel 3500 the standard warranty for the truck was 3 years 36,000 and the drivetrain was 7 / 100,000 miles.

They tried to push me into buying a extended warranty on the 3/36 and i declined, the day i purchased the truck they told me that i would not be able to purchase the extended warranty once i signed the paperwork.

Not even one year later i recieved paperwork asking if i would like to extend the warranty on my truck, i recieved that paperwork for 4 years.

My sister purchased a extended warranty on here 2002 dodge caravan thru a 3rd party and honestly the van is a pile if chit.
Everytime the van goes into the dealer, its 1000-2000 and the warranty department will not cover it.
Her AC breaks down every year and every part has been replaced twice, last time they lost her front swaybar and SHE had to buy a new one the next time it was towed to the next dealership.

The dodge intrepid is a pos just do some research on the engines, they break and the cars are worthless IMO.. Do some research online and find out how bad that motor is..

What engine is in this intrepid. Hopefully not the 2.7. If it the 2.7 I myself would stay away from that car. A friend of mine bought one too and it was the biggest POS he's ever owned. Most mechanics you bring this up to probably will agree. But I was told the main reason for the problems with these engines is in the way the oiling system is. Mechanic buddy of mine told me and several other people if you do buy one of the cars change the oil every 2,000 miles and you shouldn't have any problems. If you don't the oil will coke up on the top end of the engine and be a sludgy mess. Therefore restricting oil to the camshafts, timing chains, etc.

I don't mean to scare you out of buying this.

So if you do buy this car I would DEFINETLY get an extended warranty.
