Early 80's Grand National (Uncle thinks it's a '82).

The car has been sitting for several years. Trying to load the car onto a trailer for transport and the car will not roll forward (the engine and tranny are out of car).

Removed the wheels and brake drums thinking it might be a brake issue. Can spin the hubs in reverse (both side turn in the same direction). If we try to rotate hubs in the forward direction we cannot.

If we rotate the yoke, we can rotate the hubs in the forward and reverse directions.

How can we move this car without the driveline in place. Need to load it on a trailer for relocating. Any help would be most appreciative.

Sounds like it has a limited slip in it. If you can turn the d/s yoke in both directions, but can't move the car, get a tow rope. You just don't have enuf a$$ to do it....

Oh ya, welcome to the site!:D

WELCOME PILGRIMS!!! Glad to have you on board.
Will it roll backwards? you may be able to load it b/wards and when you reach your destination, tie the frame to a tree or an immoveable object and drive out from underneath it. Or open the rear cover and see if you can locate a broken part, maybe the pin sheared, spring or c-clip backed out or bent?

Thanks for the reply Chuck. We did pull the car with a tow rope and all it did was drag the rear tires. we could push the car backwards and the tires would roll.

ShadowII: We removed the differential rear cover, but did not see any obvious problems.

When we rotate the hubs and watch the yoke, it will move in and out about a 1/4" of an inch. we slid up under the car with the rear tires on jack stands and rotated the yoke by hand and the tires would roll in both directions depending on the direction we turned the yoke.

This is very confusing to us both. Not sure what we are going to do. Thankfully we are not in a hurry to move the car.

That info could lead me to believe that the brake shoes are locking when rolling forward. Have you tried to roll it w/ the brake drums off?
Is the driveshaft out?

The Yoke is moving in & out?
Pinion Gear is probably binding in the Ring Gear locking up the Diff. Might try tightening the Yoke nut.

I missed that little tidbit! Would/could definitely do that!

LOL, that is definitely a problem, yoke is climbing into to ring gear.
put a floor jack under the axle and pull it if you need too. We loaded one that way at Reynolds that genaded the rear.
