Your best bet would be to go to Walmart and pick up some shelving material in the kitchen section. I think it comes in different lengths 8'-10' long.

Tip, buy some and cut it in half to use as a cheap fender protector. It works great.

Then all you need after getting it would be your paint. Gun metal grey, semi gloss black, or a gloss black. And semi or gloss clear over it. There are tons of videos on YouTube on this also.
I would spend the money on the DC kit.
