I think this may be what you need. I just ordered the VSS box from Caspers and saw the sender was discontinued also. I am about to order this piece, they said it should be the right one. http://www.marshallinstruments.com/products/9220.cfm

Thanks for the info. I saw Dakota Digital had 8 pulse senders, but didn't see these.

I'd still take a Caspers unit, if anyone has one.

Have you used it?
Caspers converter uses a 16 pulse signal. I didn't know if the 8 pulse would work.

I was using the same design 16 pulse sender with caspers converter my plan is to use the 8 pulse sender and eliminate the converter all together.
My experience with the converters found that they are flaky sometimes and can give jumpy/intermittent signals at times, no signal some times, and other times work fine.
ECM VSS to Speedo reading was always 10 MPH off though...
I had used it for 8 years ago on a GTA transplant and moved it over to a GN eventually It wasn't bad enough for me to go back to a cable driven speedo; but I think I'm on the right track with the VDO programmable speedo and this 8 pulse sender.
My car is in a state of reassembly after a full paint, body, and power train "enhancements" so it might be a while before I get this on the road.
I I actually have two VSS converters a new and the one I was using.... if you are interested; but I think the 8 pulse is the way to go.

I'm new to this VSS/converter stuff. Caspers sight says their converter turns a 16 pulse signal to a 2 pulse signal for the ECM. Isn't a 2 pulse signal needed by the ECM for engine management, trans lock-up etc. ??

You are correct. It was such a long time I forgot the old GM system was a two pulse....
I probably in my head divided the 16 by 2...oh well..... I'm really not happy with the converters I have seen guys have a hidden cable driven standalone VSS just for the ECM and the wire fed signal for the speedo.

I did. I thought since it was delayed shipping, they didn't have it in stock, and they'd have Caspers drop ship. Since Caspers discontinued it............

Hey Guys on this VSS signal stuff I have a 82 regal with a G/N motor trans plant and I'm having the same issue with no signal to the ECM and can't tune the chip, The link that was posted from Jeg,s is that the sender that i would need? If so were does it plug into ? Any help would be appreciated I'm not that good we the wiring stuff thanks .

These senders are for when you run aftermarket speedometers. Check out Caspers website for more info on what else would be needed. If the interior is stock on your car, did you look into swapping in an 86/87 gauge set-up with factory VSS?

No the dash is from 1982 we did,t change the speedo.
