Back in the late '90s we put a ring in the head. Hold the stock gasket together better. Has anybody ever tried to mill that ring out of the head?

Any of those people that have dealt with this issue, can you chime in

I have read where people put a copper wire in instead of steel, and the copper deforms and fills in the groove to run stock gaskets. I am not recommending this and have not done it myself, but worth researching.

I asked this question before and received mixed reviews. I was told by someone I know personally that he did mill them down to remove the groove and had nothing but problems but some say it will just boost compression with no issues. I'd leave them alone and just run the correct gaskets. I've over boosted plenty of times and never blew a head gasket with 30+lbs of boost @125mph. GL

Do the rings fit tightly in the block? If so, you can simply surface the deck with the rings in place resulting in a flat deck. I've done it without issue.

I have a set of irons which had a steel wire ring in them when I got them. I use cometic gaskets so I had the heads resurfaced to remove the ring. Ran them for quite a while after that.

Did it affect the way the manifold fit?
