Hi all ,I`m new & was told this is the place I might be able to get some answers on my 200 4R. I have a 88 S10 ,267V8 with a 200 4R ,all I could find out about the tranny is that it is a 1983 & had a diesel in front of it ,I put the B&M Street & Strip improver kit in it ,the trans shifts through the gears nice ,will downshift into first most of the time depending if I`m going about 10-20 mph or slower ,I`ve adjusted the TV cable as specified ,but the shifts especially 1-2 are very soft ,feels like a stock tranny shift ,here`s what I need to know , when I installed the kit as per instructions I lost the 3 lower ck balls that go into the lower part of the valve body part closest to the pan ,also I believe it was the 3-4 accumulator valve thingy that has 2 springs ,a upper& lower one that I put the spacers in from the kit ,anyways the spring that was closest to the pan side with the longer spacer was broken ,but I put it in anyways ,( bad me ) can tese trannys be run without those 3 ck balls and what effect is the broken spring having on anything? I wanted this kit to give me a firm almost hard 1-2 shift to bark the tires but am wondering if those 2 problems are causing my soft 1-2 & 2-3 shifts ,pls can anyone help me ,, Bill..

im not a tranny man by any means but i have had the soft shifts after doing the reset procedure. ive never had a good shift in the "correct position." ive always moved the cable one click to the firewall or so to get a better shift. not sure about check balls but im guessin the instructions said to remove them? if ur lookin for a nice 1-2 shift and alittle firmer 2-3, after u make sure nothings wrong of course, install a CK billet servo. 15 minute install and it is awesome! just put one in and love it, had to back tv cable down a click or 2!:D hth!

just reread post, im guessing the broken spring was an accumulator spring and most likely a broken one would cause a harsh downshift i believe? im sure the tranny guys will correct me if im wrong!

Hi ,the B&M kit said to install all 11 check balls ,I took the chance and put it back together without those 3 ,I did put the other 8 in the other part of the valve body ,as far as the spring I don`t get any harsh downshifts and I`ve played with the TV cable but it didn`t do much of any difference ,that is why I`m wondering if the missing check balls are affecting this ,, Bill

I suggest calling one of the vendors on here and discussing the transmission in more detail. The diesel vb is not a good one to start with and you need at least 2 of the checkballs in the vb. The center one could be left out but the other 2 must be in there or trans failure will result. Id get a BR, CZ, CQ, or KZ coded vb to work with and the corresponding plate. The diesel plate is a no go with the vb's i mentioned.. Also a stock GN servo will be an easy swap out. Id also install a shift kit that replaces the boost valves and opens up the holes in plate. Be sure the kit includes an accumulator spring for the vb. Install the heavy springs on the accumulators.

Hi guys , just checked my kit instructions , it is the 1 to 2 accumulator spring that is broken in mine ,and the line bias spring was changed along with the presure regulator spring ,the separator plate was also drilled out at the requested positions ,so when I pull this thing apart and replace that 1 to 2 spring will that cause me to get more oil presure for that 1 to 2 shift ? Bill
