You can use gas, parts cleaner, carb cleaner, etc. Pour it in and swish it. Repeat until it comes out clean. I rinse with water, but it's not necessary. I just like to really give it a blast with the hose inside. If you are in a hurry, tape on a shop vac to dry it out. If not, just set it upside down for a while to dry.

I always used carb cleaner. Pour it in, slosh it around, let it soak, and then rinse it out. I have also taken mine to the coin-op car wash and used the engine degreaser. Just be sure you dry it out before installing it. I used a hair dryer. A shop vac will work also, make sure you have no flammable vapors first.

Get a gallon of Xyelene and pour 1/2 in it.
Slush is around on/off for about 1 hour, pour it out and install.
The remaining Xyelene will raise your octane. :D
Just don't get it on the paint.
That is some amazing stuff!

Hi Jerryl,
Yup, that stuff is pretty tough. It's tough on the environment, too.It should be safely recycled. As you probably know, it is extremly volatile, so be careful; butts out! I prefer laquer thinner. It does similar work, and evaporates fast. Also not too good for our environment, but pretty clean, actually, little residue.
I know, blah, blah, blah! I'll shut up now.Any solvent will do the job.

Cleaning intercooler

What about gas. I have heard from a few guys with GN that they used gas to clean their intercooler?

My uncle got a LC2 motor from the junk yard he borrowed my power washer to clean all the pipe leading to the intake that had no electronics and also the inter cooler inside out looked shiny.

be careful

what you tell us to use. The tree huggers might come after one of our great vendors or us if we use something that is not environmentally friendly. :frown:

I've used gas. It works too. It's the cheapest way to go.

Just remember when using gas to either rinse it out well with water or blow out the vapors with shop vac or hair dryer. If the car should back fire God forbid it could change the shape of your intercooler.

Thats where the term 'stretched' intercoolers came from

Seriously, if it only has a little film, dish washing liquid and hot water will do just fine. May need to swish and sit for a little, before rinsing with hot water. Just don't recyle it to clean the dishes.

Meets tree hugging requirements...just don;t hug a falling tree.

If nothing else you can use your used cleaner for weed killer around the yard. I have heard of people doing that. :D
