I was under the impression that Kirban's sold only AC Delco parts, but this ignition coil does not appear to a Delco unit, was in a plain brown box, no markings on it what so ever, not even a number. The bottom side looks a bit different than my Delco original and one wire pin on the bottom is about 1/4" further apart.
Anyone know if these are any good, my post last weekend pretty much was unamimous that anything but a Delco was trash...no wonder Kirbans only charges $60 for these and the dealer wants $133.
It did pass the coil test which ran it up to 8k rpms and it did not mis-fire on the Caspers ignition tester.

I wouldnt be concerned with the coils if they test good. Its the modules you have to be concerned with. I bought a GP Sorenson from Advance Auto Parts and the tach stopped working. Tried a known good one and it worked fine. I ended up returned the GP Sorenson and got a new AC Delco and that solved the problem.

I have Kirbans coil pack on both my cars and have had for several years...no problems...

He appearently used to have Delco units, are your's Delco coil packs or no-name coils like the one I received from them?

I bought a spare from him years ago and it came in the plain brown box like you had Rob. Not a Delco part from what I can tell.:(

I bought one from ERIC6659 on this board when he posted them for sale in August and did not appear to be a GM/AC Delco unit. I dont if the AC delco's are lettered or have a name on them. He said they were genuine GM units.

Keep these basic principles in mind:

Sometimes - you get what you pay for
Always - you don't get what you don't pay for...

Also:

Confuscius say - Chinese prybar always bend...

:D

Hmm, GMpartsdirect.com has them for $67...they would have to be a Delco I would think, it says GM beside it..
Anyway, I put the one in from Kirban, it doesn't mis-fire all the way up to 8k rpms on the Capser module/coil tester, the one that came off had 2 coils quit at about 6k. I ran the car all the way up to 24# of boost with no problems....off to the track I go.

They are Magnavox coil packs...we buy several hundred at a time....all AC Delco does is put them in a box.

They are the same, they are updated versions (Magnavox got the contract from GM), they appear different from FACTORY ORIGINAL coils but will be identical to the GM units if you have bought one from the dealer in the last 4 or 5 years. We have tested them into the 8's:D

Thanks for the updates, I feel alot better now, maybe I'll pick up a few more for spares now.

I like 'em also. If you find they don't live up to your standards, then......
