does anyone know what the acceptable range is as far as ohms when checking the resistance between two spark plug terminals on the coilpack?

In the 11's is good. Higher than that it could start breaking up. 13's I would replace it. Check it cold, and key off but I don't know if that really matters.

thanks alot for the replys. Im just having some bad luck with these coilpacks lately. The one that was originally on my car had the middle terminals totally dead. So i purchased a new module and coil and ohmed the coil and read 12000, 12600, and 12000. After i installed it tho, the ohms read 12900, 13100, and 12900. what would cause them to change their ohms after the install? i am totally stumped here guys. And better yet, when i tried to install the pack for the second time (made sure the wiring was correct from the module) one of the connectors broke off. Then i went and bought another coilpack and that one reads 8000 all the way across. Any advice on what i should do? Like i said, im totally fed up guys

All the coils I've had in the 11,000s and 12,000, 13,000 ohm range worked out ok. I just ordered one from Hiway Stars ($43) here on the board brand new unhooked it read 12.5 ohms. You can only bend the terminals once or twice & MAYYYBBEE 3 times but thats about it they will break. When you buy the next one make sure they are right and bend them ONLY once.

By the way how do you know you need a coil pack is it breaking up under boost? How much boost are you pushing? What are your spark plug type & gaps?

Thanks alot Clark6, i appreciate the reply. I have a completely stock 86 grand national. I have champion copper spark plugs at a gap of .035 ( thats the gap that it says on the engine sticker). The car runs fine under light duty like driving around town, but as soon as you try to accelerate hard, the car just stumbles, and shakes and falls flat on its face and will not gain any more speed untill you let off the gas and then lightly reapply. If you try to smash the accelerater at any time the car will stumble and shake HARD. I replaced the spark plugs, got new spark plug wires, fuel pump, fuel filter, air filter, remanufactured maf (ive been told this may be a problem), coil pack, and ignition module. None of these things have made any difference. This is frustrating!!

And when you did a road test with a fuel pressure gauge you can see while driving that the pressure increased like it should as you accelerated?

(EDIT) oh yeah good point Nick))))

Do you know exactly what boost you are at?

But yes that falling on its face could be a coil pack symptom but also a plug

Have you tried cranking the car then unplugging the CAM sensor cap while the car is running (even though the check engine light will come on) and ease on the throttle to see if it makes a difference?

What kind of gauge do you have to verify boost ? hopefully not the stock gauge on the console.

i have not had a chance to check the fuel pressure stationary or when driving. I have a kit to measure fuel pressure that i can use. Is that something that i could do myself? And can you tell me or direct me to a place with step by step instructions on how to measure fuel pressure (sorry im new to turbo buicks)

Clark- i am not sure what exact boost i am set at, i assume the stock amount because i kept my actuator the same length as the stock one that came on the car. I have tried running it with the cam sensor unplugged and it still fell flat on its face. Although it didnt do it as violently, it still did it none the less. I do have an aftermarket vdo boost gauge i am trying to install soon, i just have to find instructions on how to install it

I will be happy to explain it to you, but give me a call as typing a long reply is a real chore for me.

Thanks alot Nick. is there any days or times that would be better to get in contact with you after tonight?
