coil pack test

I borrowed a multimeter to try and test my coilpack to see if it is shot or not. I am just curious on how this should be done. I know that you put the two testers on the two terminals opposite each other on the coilpack and the reading should be between 11000-13000 ( i think) but im not sure what setting to use. Some of the symbols have the omega sign and others say v (pretty sure thats volts) any ideas? Thanks alot for any help
