has anyone experimented with locating the filter outside of the engine bay? what have you guys done? thinking about locating it to the nose somehow. also how are you getting air to your front mount intercooler?

I have done a cold air set up outside of the engine bay down by the fog light. Worked great. That was a 3'' setup tho. Now I am ready to do a 4'' setup and locate it in the same position as that last car.
My front mount scoops air in and keeps temps very low. Engine temps are great so far.

can you show pics and explain how you did it? thanks

I dont have pics of that old setup. That was in 2002.
All you have to do is take a hole saw to the pan and pull the fog light. Get a pipe that fits and your done. Of course, this is after you removed the air filter bracket and some emissions crap.

a hole in what? and what about water hitting the filter if it rains?

Never had a problem in the rain (and it was a daily driver in Florida).
Opposite side of battery tray is where the big hole goes.

I cut a hole in the nose bumper, and cut the crash/impact bar and welded in a cold air box...

I made the hole below the air box.. put the filter in front of the wheel well.. performance wise.. car didn't pickup anything. The only thing I picked up was a dirty filter way sooner as it was acting like a vacuum cleaner picking up debris. The TTA sits lower than a Buick.
I guess after I made the hole, made the tubing, found the correct filter, and had it all done.. U bet it works ;)

X2 on the dirty filter.
I cleaned mine all the time. Forget to clean it and you WILL lose MPH and ET as Julio found out;)
