Who's got a good cold air kit?

And do cold air kits really make any difference than a big K&N exposed under the hood?

If so, how much of a difference?

What about ram-air kits?

I have a ram-air kit and can say that it works well. When I put it on, it gave me about 0.30 sec in my ET and about 3/4 mph in the trap speed. I have heard that ram-air system hurts you on the low end in comparison to a cold air kit.

Whose ram-air kit do you have? Or is it home-made?

get mark heuffman's big mouth cold air kit and be done with it...it's the best system there is...9" filter under the car near the headlights....bolts to a 90 degree rubber elbow...then goes into a 4" chrome pipe then you can get the rubber hose to have the hole drilled for a mat sensor and screw it right in...my entire system does not budge at all and i saw a very noticeable gain in performance...instead of sucking in air under the hot hood you get nice cool air under the car...also the sound under boost is AMAZING...it sounds like quoted before "a vacuum on steroids"...it really turns heads when under boost...hell even when not under boost and just accelerating normally you can hear the evil hiss...it's great:D

All well put don couldnt have said it better myself:D

But what about the thing with the nice cool air under the car:rolleyes:

LOL in Vegas in July, August, there is no hope for cool air, my scanmaster still showes air temps@100:eek: and that is with Marks kick butt kit.

Is there any worry about getting mud, water, or road dirt all over the filter with it hanging under there? That's what I would be concerned with. Constantly having to clean the filter.

That was my only concern, but mine doesnt hang below the air dam, or the spoiler whatever you call it there all around the front lower bumper. The only way i can see it affecting anything is to drive through a big puddle or something.

Yes, I was looking at Mark's (thanks to that ad banner up there ^ ).

I also heard that some cat named Pete Tomka has a good one.

big mouth kit

big mouth cold ait intake ie the best and it works great. here my factual testimonial here i used to have the regular (so call cold air kit) 9" k&n filter under the hood. with an ambient temp of say 85 degrees out side my scan master would read close to 130 under the hood (IAT sensor reading) installed ATR cold air intake with 14" cold air kit much better readings same conditions sensor read
100 degrees. than i upgraded again to 4" big mouth with the 8" k&n filter down in the fender. temp reading fell to 85-90 degrees . and ever since all my temp readings now stay within 10 degrees of ambient temp outside. nothing beats the BIG MOUTH. i have seen it's beifits with my own eyes.:D

We are working on refrigerated air filters for you guys in Vegas.;) J/K Thanks for all the compliments everyone. Shipping 4 kits out tomorrow. Even seeing some interest from the HOT AIR owners.

my MAT sensor readings are actually within 5 degrees of the outside air temp...sometimes when cruising at 55 mph it is exactly the same as the outside temp...here in indiana that like 50 degrees usually:rolleyes:

Those looks pretty neat. How well do they seal - any problems with them leaking when closed?

Cold Air? Ram Air?

NEVER heard anyone call the open filter in the engine compartment a "cold air kit" as Teddie suggests.
What are you talking about, BAV6, ram air hurting you at the low end? I don't know of anyone who actually makes a ram -air for the Buicks (maybe for the hot-airs, but haven't seen them in catalogs). And don't see why it would hurt at low speed. And finally, has anyone checked the air pressure behind the spoiler? There are kits which pick up behind the grill, where there will be positive pressure. Under the car, there will be negative pressure. Not much of a difference, I'm sure, but it will make the turbo work harder.

pressure theroy

i never thought of it that way ormand about the negative pressure under the car possible causing additional work for the turbo. it would be interesting to find that out.

Would not trade my ATR cold air kit for anything. Works great the Filter is Enclosed so no mud and crap gets in it and still has a somewhat stock appearance.
