Dry or A light coating of some type of sealant????

The look of these Headgaskets scares me when I think of putting them on Dry.....They dont seem to have much coating on them,And look like they would not seal properly...

I know this is just being Paranoid.....;) And lots of people are using them Dry with great results..

But Just wondering if anyone else put anything on there cometics to aid them in sealing..

Thanks,Shawn

The surface of the block and heads has to have a certain finish called RA for them to seal correctly. In other words the machine shop has to use the correct stone when they surfaced the heads and decked the block to prodice a finish thats as smooth as a baby's bottom.... if not.. theyre gonna leak.

careful what ya ask for.. for a street car in the 11's.. cant beat the felpros or stock GM's.

Cometics work flawlessly. Yes block/head prep is essential, but that is true with any headgaskets. Got the first set Cometics sold to public and still in the motor. Install dry, no problems. They have a couple of thousanths of Viton coating and remember they are spring steel (memory).

You cannot install any headgasket with sealent. First of all it would blow out probably in the first minute of running the car. Secend, the gaskets have a certian height, so that you get the proper compression, add silicone to that and you raise the head off the block which in turn lowers compression. Not a good idea, always install dry.

Thanks For the Replies Guys......

I wasnt thinking of Gooping on a ton of silicone or anything on them./...I was Thinking more along the lines of a very light coating of something like Hylomar.

I will install them Dry,I think I should be fine...

These will be going on A set of Aluminum GN1's,Car should be mid 10.Sec capable,(Not the TTA)..But will more likely be a Mid to low 11 sec car...Not going Bonzai with it....;) With an occasional HIgh 10Sec pass..

TurboFish...... Dont let Jason Cramer Know that you cant use a sealant of any sort on the headgaskets....They say His setup with the steels and GE 1200 Sealant is just about unbeatable...Lots of people using the setup with good luck....:)

Well see, Motor comes back this week.....

Thanks Again Guys,

Shawn

Where on earth did you hear that? People here have been using siliconed double (and single) steel shim head gaskets for years!
