looking good. did you port the heads? also since the motor is out and your not running the throttle body coolant line why dont you take them and have someone weld the holes up so you dont have to use the bypass hose like that. also some nice valve cover bolts and intake bolts and water pump pully bolts would make it look nice. a nice set of ARP's maybe. or even some header studs? also a biggie oil filter adapter and i would polish or clean up the starter heat shield. also since those look like stock rocker shafts how about some RJC rocker shaft braces? also those KB headers look nice. i wouldnt mind trying a set but not sure if i would gain anything over my postons but they sure look nice.just some things i see. good luck and keep posting pics it gives me something to look at while i sit here and do nothing in the desert

Looks good Mike, I hope you remember where all that parts on the table go

pistons

Thanks guys
the pistons are supposed to be speed pro hypers .30 over
the heads have had some mild porting and the heads and intake are port matched
Ran out of aluminum for my spool gun so I will be welding the adapter on the 86-87 turbo tomorrow.
If all goes well should be up and runnin by next weekend
cant wait to try out all the new stuff I got since Jan.
New convertor, bigger turbo ,new down pipe
and the new laptop (well not new but new to me).

what converter? what turbo? dp looks like a ATS 2 1/2? did you do billet center caps or anything on the bottom end?

im suprised it took so long. they didnt even install the cam or heads. i dont understand. did they do billet caps or turn the crank? with the work they did should have been done in less then 4 weeks if that.

yea turned crank, bored block, pressed pistons. he stays real busy and I told him I wasnt in a hurry.
BTW-- my lifters have about .130 preload, is that gonna hurt anything are should I get shorter pushrods?

Update

Well its a good thing I love my car as of yet I still havent heard it run
All of my new goodies I bought over the winter went on as follows
Rebuilt 87 turbo been in box since last year got it out and on closer inspection notice bolt loose on hot side of compressor found bolt was stripped
so I disassble turbo only to find center of compressor backing plate busted
and IT WAS NEVER REBUILT it is a complete loss. :frown:
order new flexplate got wrong one 3 times  part number on box was right but flexplate in box was wrong .
new motor mounts wouldnt line up
shiney new 2 1/2 downpipe wouldnt clear KB headers:mad:
on a positive note the new convertor went in with out a hitch
now i can only wait to see if it works right but i am pretty sure it will be the only thing that works as it came from CK.:D

thats not cool. kinda funny that i was looking at those headers the other night and i was like damn they look nice but i dont think they will clear my 3 inch DP. if your saying the 2 1/2 inch dp doesnt clear it that really sucks. what are you going to do. if you sale those headers crossover and up-pipe put me in line as i would like to do a comparision on them. i want to make a custom dp for mine since i no longer have a/c anyways. also you got a new ck converter did you get a billet converter if so what stall?>

headers

I have a 2 1/2 downpipe on it but it was getting old and was a 2 piece design
the new one was 1 piece and shiney new:biggrin:
but i discovered that i need to put the pipe in before the engine
it hits the flange for the v band clamp:confused: so rather that pull the engine out again (would be the third time tonight because of motor mout issues) got my handy dandy sawzall out and made a new 2 piece down pipe  gues i get to try out the new tig welder at work:biggrin: and the convertor is a restalled d-5
2800 not looking for a race car got one already just looking for a nice ride and to run the way it is supposed to .
the trans was rebuilt before i got the car and whoever rebuilt it put a d-7 convertor in it so i am hoping that the convertor alone will wake it up a bit.

Hopefully you won't regret using the FelPro 1000's like I did...

Because they are used for stage II motors with the extra head bolts, the gasket is thin at the top and bottom of the cylinder where the bolts on a stage II should go.

I went through a couple sets of those before putting the cheap ones back in and haven't looked back since. No blown gaskets since I changed.

head gaskets

Well I hope i will be alright I did a search a while back and everbody said they were the best .
I ran them for about a year and I had audiable knock and when i pulled the engine for rebuild didnt notice anything wrong with them
Are you running ARP head bolts?I put the ARP bolts in when I put the first set in.
Was a little confusing getting the bolts you basically have to order 2 sets as they list them for the stage motors and they come with 6 bolts in each set you cant use.

When I ran the FP1000, I was running ARP bolts as well. Didn't care for them either. The 1/2" heads rounded off way too easy if you had to do a gasket change while in the car and had limited access.

I've since gone to a routine of new OEM bolts and steel shims. Torqued in sequence to 70 ft/lbs. I haven't blown one in so long, I don't even know if you can still get the oem bolts or shim gaskets. I had heard that they were discontinued though.

The gaskets just seem weak unless you've got the extra clamping power of the top and bottom bolts. I'm sure some have good luck with them. I didn't, but I hope you do...
