My next mini project on my car is to replace all my vacuum lines. I bought my car a few months ago, and I know some of the vaccum lines are rotted nd cracked and I figure I might as well replace them all to start with a clean slate. I know from another post that i need some 1/4", 5/32" and 7/32" line. Are there any other sizes needed? Also, are there any alternatives besides regular rubber vaccum line? Like some fancy silicone hoses? I figure if I'm going through all the trouble of replacing all these, I'd like to use the best stuff out there, so if anyone has any ideas for lines that would be more durable and resistant to heat and such, please share. Also, what have you guys done as far as attaching them to the connectors? Do most of you just slip them over the little barbs and call it day? use hose clamps? Zip-ties? Lastly, I'm not sure all my lines are routed properly. I have seen various diagrams, including the oens in the sticky at the top of the forum here, but its kind of hard to decipher exactly what is going on in the area behind the throttlebody/compressor outlet area. Does anyone have any decent photos of this area on their car so I can make sure all my routing is done properly? I have the double line wastegate.

Oh yeah, one mroe thing. Where is a good source for the proper restrictor y connector for the wastegate? right now mine has just a generic "tee" fitting, with no restrictor. Anyone know where to get the proper fitting?

Thanks in advance for all the help. If it weren't for this board my car would still be a ****ty-running lump in my driveway. and would you believe I've learned so much from this site that now I'm not jsut asking questions here, I've actually answered a few from others? Feels nice to give back a little :)

ive tried silicone hoses and they collapse so that dont work. i use the regular black rubber hose with black zip ties. the "y" is still availible from buick and has to be used or the boost will peg every time you tough the gas. on gnttype there is a diagram on how the lines go. i used this twice once on my car and once on the black grill gn on that cancelled show full throttle. worked both times with no problems. any other q's you can reach me on aim or yahoo messenger.

this y restrictor ur guys talkin about is the one that hooks up to the the doublt wastegate line that leads to the turbo and the vacuum block on the throttle body ? if so is this y restrictor soppose to be blocked off on one end or something becuz i just checked mine yesterday after readin this thread and i looked into that y fittin and there is no kind of blockin in it i can blow into to it from one end and feel air out of both do i have the wrong one ?

The single leg of the "Y" goes to one of the wastegate lines. On the other side, the straight leg of the "y" goes to the compressor housing of the turbo, and the canted leg of the "Y" goes to the wastegate solenoid. the straight leg, that goes to the compressor housing, is the one with the restrictor in it. It doesnt completely block the line, so you can still blow through it, but it makes the passage smaller (I read somewhere the actual diameter of the restriction, but I dont know it off the top of my head). If you look through, it should be smaller inside than the other 2 legs.

click on the link in the post above yours, and it has a pretty clear diagram showing where the fitting and restrictor are.

BTW, thanks MyBuick, that diagram should help a bunch, I hadn;t seen it before. I was kind of thinking of jsut using black zip-ties, but wasn't sure if there was a better solution out there. I've seen 1 or 2 guys using what looks like hard plastic lines (small diameter plastic, not rubber) with some sort of metal fittings before, anyone done this, or know what it is and where to buy that sort of stuff? Thansk again for all the help

ok thank for clarifying that up it looks just the way u described it but now that i took a better look at the diagram not the link on this thread but the other one in the basic hot air info i cant tell if that hose that comes from the vacuum block is hooked up to the first nipple on the double wastegate closest to the dp or if it goes to the second nipple closest to the throttle body the way i have mine setup is the hose comin off the "y " on one of the staright ends is hooked up to the first nipple on my wastegate (if ur standin in front of the car that would be the left one closest to the dp )and the hose coming from the vacuum block is hooked up to the second nipple being the one on the right closest to the throttle body do i have set up wrong? shouls i switch them around ? thanx again sorry for makin it long hope i dont cnfuse anyone

Regarding the restrictor "Y", does anyone have a GM part number for this? I'm gonna swing by my local buick dealer in the next few days, and the guys in teh parts dept are less than helpful. So if anyone knows a part number to ask for, I'm sure it would help a whole lot. Thanks!!

the 85 tee is discontinued

u can use the 86-87 tee and put new 7/32 line in its longer spot

not quite sure what you mean by "put new 7/32 line in its longer spot" . Is the 86/87 still available at dealers?

sorry ,

the 86-87 waste gate hose is only 1/2 the size of the 84-85

since my 85 was dry cracked too bad i ordered the 86-87

then i got 3 feet of 7/32 hose copied the old hose and put the
tee on the new hose then just routed it to the solenoid

i work at the dealer and can get the part # if you need

email if you need pic or more info thanks skostur79@comcast.net
