compressor housing question

i was reading a thread last week about old 3.8 gas turbos from late 70s. was reading that the compress housing was bigger than on 86-87 turbos .i have a buddy with 2 old 3.8 turbos and was wondering if would make a diff on stock turbo???also thread said compress wheel bigger and hole for wastegate puck is bigger.is it true?????
