Is it possible to get compressor surge under
light throttle accel while at 5"-10" vacuum and not under boost?

I am wondering the same thing!

Trying to get readyf or indy and having this flutter or surge issue at 3000 ROM. MAF shows 255 at this RPM which seems pretty damn high!

yup, that's part throttle surge. Very common. Difficult to fix sometimes.

What turbos, chips, intercoolers are you guys running?

RE compressor surge

I have a 4.1 with 50# injectors
extender chip, MAF extender plus
TE63e-1 turbo
generic IC 18x12x3 2.5" in and out

this problem is driving me nuts, any help advice is appreciated!

surge?

do you mean if its part throttle, the waste gate puck will start fluttering open?? if thats the case, mine does too, but it only happens at part throttle, I've learned to deal with it by either putting my foot down, or baby'n it around town. I'm running a t66. My buddy who I bought the turbo from had the same problem, just floor it and be done with it

I solved all my part throttle surging by adding the Tornado to the inlet track.
Bruce had posted that it worked and I tried it with repeating success.
All my DSM friends now install it to kill their surge problems, its worked every time.

Its worth a shot. I think there is a small spoolup penalty and perhaps a peak hp loss. But the improvement in driveability is probably worth it.

The other way to fix it is to set the wastegate system to reduce your boost at part throttle.

How do you do that? I've got surge issues even with my smaller turbo/intercooler combo anytime I set the wastegate rod to boost 20 psi or more. There are times when you really don't need to go into warp speed to pass someone on the hwy. Those part throttle situations are when the surge becomes annoying.

I have the Greddy Profec B Spec ll and I have not been able to adjust the surge out either unless I am running low boost.

what adjustments are available? you want it to run low boost until you have heavy throttle. It will slow your 'casual spool' some.

I'm hoping that with the waste gate rod set to a low 6LBs and my BSCT controller set to build boost over 3500 that maybe this will get under control. I will be playing with it a Indy in a couple days....

No pic but it works, there is a post by Bruce on the other board that has data.

Bruce showed a slight lag in initial spool but an increase in spool after 7psi.
It was really close though and I believe he said it was pretty much spooled the same as stock.

It really works and makes some sense when you think about what its supposed to be doing to the air coming into the compressor wheel.
