I had my ibm notebook pluged into a industrial controller when power was turned on I believe it suffered a voltage spike. Shortly after power was restored my screen went blue. Also the ac electric drive for the motor in the controller also lost its control board at the same time. Computer won't restart just get a drive error and noise from the hard drive. What should be my next move?

I figured I might get that response. What is the process of recovering the hard drive ? I have alot of $ wrapped up in software on this thing (thousands)

It depends on the laptop but generally speaking, you just disassemble the lower portion and the drive is fairly easy to spot and remove.

You can use something like GetDataBack to recover whats on there if the hard drive is indeed puked. You probably will need some kind of converter cable to be able to hook it up to a desktop PC but that shouldn't be difficult to find.

Has anybody ever sent there HD in to be recovered, how much$ and time, I dont want to risk messing it up further
