I am looking at a new computer, Sony all-in-one, model LT, 22" screen witn computer internals built in, at about $1900 with no software, or a Mac, all in one, don't remember model # or name, 24" inch screen with computer internals built in, about $1800 with nom soft ware. I have always used Windows XP, and now it will cost me extra to have the Vista pulled out and the Windows XP installed, and same with Mac, I can have it switched over to Windows XP, but at extra cost. My problem is will I get used to & be able to adapt to the Mac with it's operating software? I am open to all comments & counsel.

IMO, comparing a Mac to any brand PC is like comparing a Ferrari to a deisel! Macs are very easy to use, that's one of their nicest features.

That would be a Mac OS X model, I guess. both are impressive units. I am going crazy without a on-line computer, didn't know that I was this addicted to cruising the web.

wife has mac, I have windows

more stuff available for windows. and cheaper too!
mac is easier to use, less people know how to operate it,/fix it.
go try each at Frys, see what works for you.

Gary,
We recently bought a 21" Mac after owning a PC forever. Very easy to use and because it uses the same dual core Intel processor, the Mac can also run PC programs. We just installed the new operating system for the Mac called Leopard. Apple also has training to help you make the transition. The Mac is also less susceptible to virus.

first.. upgrade to cable internet man.. get off that dial up shi* LOL...

I 2nd nordy on that one! most people using macs use it for design programs, alot of music stuff. Most customers homes I go to that have music studios, use a mac. and alot of artists and designers. they are very easy to use, but if your an old dog not able to learn new tricks, stick to what your use to:D and pc's are cheaper by alot.

PC, I do not like Mac's. If you aren't a gadget guy the Mac makes no sense to me. MS works with bascially everything, with a Mac you will eventually run into a PIA. Just IMO:D

Gary,

I have 3 comps. 2 HP's and one I-Mac.

One of the HP's is a paper weight, the other is a lap-top I spent some $$ on, and it works great.

My I-Mac is bad ass!!! I bought the 24'' with all the upgrades and I couldn't be happier with the money spent. It is very easy to use and not as prone to a virus as a PC is.

Also,

If you buy a new apple from the apple store, they will transfer all of your info/data from your PC to Mac for free.

Just another plus....

Gary,
Once you make the jump to a Mac, you will never go back.

Bear with me, my computer keeps going down and crashing again and I have to "Restore System" daily. Less than enjoyable, and I can't keep it up enough to get any data from the web. I am considering the 20" I-Mac with up grades and maybe running both OX S & Windows XP on that computer. I love the 24", but it is just too big for where the computer is going to go in my house, so the 20" will have to do it. Best Buy in Lakewood has the 24" on the web and I have gone in and played with it so much that they hate to see me come it. The other computers there are not hooked up to the net. What upgrades did you do, how much $$ for everything, was it done at the Costa Mesa Store?, and how long did it take them to complete everything, Oh, and I already lost word and all of it's data. I did not have it backed up and MSN deleted the program from my computer. All I need to keep is my address book & e-mail system, most ot my E-mails were deleted also. Damn MSN & Gates to boot.

Gary,

I just got your phone call. Sorry I didn't respond, my family and I are doing Christmas dinner.

When you get a chance feel free to call. If I dont pick up tonight then feel free to call me tomorrow anytime. I will be around the house.

Hope you have a Merry Christmas!!

Well Gary if you want it fixed drop it off no charge don`t mind helping out a fellow turbobuick member. I would stick with a pc more room to upgrade in the future also what is the hardware you are running now and what are your plans with this pc what is it you want to do also if you need the space you could go with apple since it is a all in one unit and we could daul boot the os`s let me know

IMO.....MACs RULE!!! been using one since i was a kid. still using one - have had my 867mhz Quicksilver G4 since 2001 - Never ever a problem - just started doing major upgrades this last month... now i have 2TB of memory and a dual processor 1.8 on the way... and IMO [the full desktop versions] are easier to work on then on PCs.... hell i just pull a lever and the case door comes down, with easy access to everything. JMO...

i use mine for business and it has held up through rigorous hours and hours of design...

if you want a gaming computer - GET a sony PS3 - if you want a computer GET A MAC:eek:

I really appreciate that, and I need al of the help that I can get. I am not very computer savy, I have used Windows XP for about 6 years, not very good with but I know my way around Word whidh I use a lot. I haven't bought the computer yet, I am still tossing a coin, but so far I like the I-Mac, 20", wireless mouse & keyboard, and maybe next upgrade in CPU & memory. I have kicked around dual boot but I have been unalbe to find out if adding Windows XP to a I-mac makes only the Windows XP partition/portion suceptible for viruses, or now is the whole system, Windoes XP and the Leopard system suceptible to the normal viruses that Windows XP is open to? So, if you dual boot Windows XP in a Imac, now do you need spyware?

Question for you Gary now why would you want to dual boot system first think of the software you would have to buy for two different Operating systems office for Mac office for windows makes no sense unless you like to waste money also the operating system would be on different partitions so viruses you got on xp partition would be only on xp not on both partitions sony i would stay away from not a good brand to buy you are only paying for the name what is it that you want to do with you system

I've not made a final decision, yet, Brent, but I am leaning towards the Imac 20" 1 gig memory, 2.4 Mhz CPU, 320 harddrive upgraded to 2 gig memory, & 500 Hard drive, wireless mouse & keyboard, running on Mac 10.5 Leopard, without adding Windows XP to it. I am having so many problems with MSN & my computer right now it is getting impossible to deal with, and I just found out that I can't get TimeWarner Road Runner up here, so that is screwed up also. MSN dial-up is becoming impossible to deal with. I am just a heartbeat away from putting a full clip of .45 auto slugs through the screen & tower both. Actually, that might be the event for New Years celebration this P.M. I just can't say enough bad about MSN right now, well, I can, but I just won't.
