As a coach of a lil league team I'm more impressed with the way the Georgia team conducted themselves after the walkoff homerun that won the game then anything else. The kids from Japan played their hearts out and although they were really upset, they too were true Gentleman of the game. Its unfortunate that at the two local parks I coach at, we dont have such sportsmanship like that but I do make it a point to teach my boys the correct approach. All year long I've been saying the following to my boys when appropriate " The game is over 100 years old, it has been played long before you, and it will be played long after your old and burned up like me
, so respect the game and play it the way its supposed to be played". Sometimes its hard dealing with some of these kids but I figure if I dont try to keep a few of these kids in line now I might be locking them up a few years from now. Might sound crazy but its very possible considering the neighborhoods these kids come from. If any of U guys have any tips or suggestions on your coaching methods I would love to hear them, cuz ive got 2 kids that wont buy into my style.
