Found a car i wanted to buy in Connecticut, the guy said they dont issue titles in Connecticut for older vehicles its an 87  and it is sold with a bill of sale and once it gets down here to FL the Tag Agency will do a Vin verification and here is where they would issue me a title.. Can anyone chime in is this normal?

Car is in Prospect

The cars in CT do have titles. I believer that cars from the mid 70s and earlier didn't have titles. My 1987 Buick GN had a title, but my 1969 Camaro SS doesn't have a title. I actually live in Prospect, CT. I wasn't aware of this particular car being for sale, but sounds fishy to me.

Unless he bought it in a different state and never registered it. I bought mine in NY and now have a CT title after I registered in state. If he bought the car and lost the title her has to apply for a duplicate as memory serves me.

From CT DMV.......see bold line at bottom.
When a Title Is Not Needed

According to Connecticut State Law Title 14 Sec. 14-166 exempted vehicles: the acquisition of a certificate of title shall not be required for the following:
  1. A vehicle owned by the United States, unless it is registered in this state.
  2. A vehicle owned by a manufacturer or dealer and held for sale, even though incidentally moved on the highway or used for purposes of testing or demonstration; or a vehicle used by a manufacturer solely for testing.
  3. A vehicle owned by a nonresident of this state and not required by law to be registered in this state.
  4. A vehicle regularly engaged in the interstate transportation of persons or property for which a currently effective certificate of title has been issued in another state.
  5. A vehicle moved solely by animal power.
  6. An implement of husbandry.
  7. Special mobile equipment.
  8. A self-propelled wheel chair or invalid tricycle.
  9. Any trailer having a gross weight not in excess of 3,000 lbs.
  10. Any vehicle for which a temporary registration has been issued pursuant to Connectict State Law Title 14 Sec. 14-12 for the purpose of permitting a non-resident owner who purchases a vehicle in Connecticut to transport such vehicle to such owner’s home state.
  11. A motor vehicle owned by the state or any town, city or borough within the state.
  12. A motor vehicle registered temporarily for inspection purposes pursuant to Connecticut State Law Title 14 Sec. 14-12.
  13. A snowmobile.
The acquisition of a certificate of title for any vehicle manufactured prior to 1981 shall not be required. The commissioner, in his discretion, may issue such certificate of title for such a vehicle for a fee of $25.

Sounds like the seller is off by a few years on when a title is needed and when it's not. Good to walk away like you said.

Jeez Tom, thought you were selling yours! Do you know of the car in question? Tom, you wouldn't happen to know a guy in Prospect named Gary Baldowski do you??

Nope, not me. I have a title! :D I don't know the car in question, but I wouldn't mind a second. Gary's name sounds familiar, but can't put a face with the name. We deal with a ton of locals thru the business, so it's possible we've crossed paths.

Post some info. Someone needs to check it out and the vin. Could be a stolen car.

#10 would work for an out of stater looking to buy the car with no title.

You'd probably have to do that to drive it back home anyway.

Owner should do a duplicate title search to sell the car easier for sure.

I seen that car on there. It's not worth all the hassles.your better off selling your drivetrain ( assuming its stock) take the roughly $4000 from that add it to the probably $2300 you would have invested in getting the car and shipping and just buy a turbo t for a little more and save a ton of work and have a car actually worth more than a converted one that you could all ready buy. Just my opinion

I have everything to convert it, its simple just to have a cool light blue n/a regal coverted is cool imo love that color & plain jane interior i would rag the chit outa that car with a stocker setup.

Car is right next door to my shop. My next door neighbors are selling it. Nice car, but rear frame rails are rotted, and needs a radiator. I've been considering buying it and making it a drag car, as I am reluctant to put any type of cage in my GN. HTH. I didn't get all into specifics about it as wasn't ready to make an offer on it when I spoke to them about it.

He is my accountant who apparently has disappeared! No refund yet, state or fed and no invoice from him. Last I heard from him was April 14th and told me how much my refunds would be but no mention of filing an extension or anything. Been after him for 3 weeks now, email and messages and no response. Getting pissed! Maybe he went on a bender after tax season was over who knows? Lives on 10 Pine Meadow Lane.

Rotted frame = a real lot of work if your gonna swap it. My opinion not worth the trouble. Usually if the frame is rotted so are brake and fuel lines and.... And.... And ..... It all sorta goes toghther . Ask me how I know!!! Is it a v6 or v8 car?

You guys know what I would do with it!!!!! Not having the title is a big deal here because it complicates scrapping it. Ask me how I know.

Hey mark why don't you just make the 1/2 hour ride up there and bang on his door?
