Well I have never owned a TR but have always wanted one:D There is one local to me and I have considered buying it, but with no knowlage of theses cars I am unsure. It's an 87 with 103,000 miles, 2nd owner, never been tampered with or raced and has all of the original equiptment including the rear and has tipical wear and problems (the usual rust on the door bottoms, no holes) and has a rearend noise(owner is unsure of what it is) a/c needs work and could use a paint job but that is what I due for a living:D Is the $4700 obo. asking price too much?  What do you guys think? Is this a good foot in the door price for a TR?

Thanks for your input.....John (455 oldz)

Just as a reference I paid $4000 dollars for my T-type, came primered needs body work, but the AC's perfect, it has a fresh posi, 69,000 when I bought it, all stock except for a boost gauge...Mine is a column shift bench seat, I would have paid more for a console car if I could have found one at the time...Also look in the cars for sale here you can find some good deals, (I bought my off of racingjunk.com

Mmm, great site. I'd be weary of the rust. If its minor stuff on the surface, that can be taken care of. But the body work could add up, plus the cost of a decent paint job. If theres a TR guy near you, have him go w/ you to look at it. People can be shady about these kind of cars.

Well, I am a body man by trade, so that is not the problem, I was more conserned about the mileage vs. the price. With that kind of milage, do they start needing alot of things replaced? or are they pretty much problem free?

Thanks!

At that mileage you should consider the fuel system, timing chain, valve springs, and perhaps the odd sensor here and there will start to go, plugs and wires perhaps too.

If you can do mechanic work as well as body work then it's not too bad a deal.

If not paint a mechanics car for him to cover those items. ;)

Or save up a G or so to cover it, maybe more if the rear end is shot.

Just a few things to consider.
