I have gotten very tired of glasses and decided to give contacts a try. I had my eye test done and recieved on new trial pair of contacts. I could not see crap out of them. I wore them for a full 2 days and was unable to focus at far away objects.

I went back and told them of the problem Got back on the chair and recieve a different pair, these were weighed a larger contact . My right eye prescription was also adjusted. This pair is much better , but I still have problems out the right eye with blurry distance vision.

Anoyed with the contacts I had new lenses made for my old glasses using the 1st unajusted prescription. I can see great out my glasses. Whats the deal? BTW I have astigmatism(sp) in both eyes.

Should i just give up ?

If they changed the original prescription then it was wrong. What's to say the second prescription isn't also wrong....which it sounds like if you can't see.

I don't like contacts personally (tried them) so still wear glasses. On one of my visits to the optometrist some years back, the pair of glasses he supplied under his new prescription was blurry. I went back 3 times, each time he said the prescription was right on. I knew it wasn't. Finally I went to an eye doctor, and he said the reason the glasses were blurry was the original prescription numbers were all wrong. He wrote me a new script and I had my glasses made from that. They were perfect.

I bitched at the original guy and he reimbursed me for my script cost and my gas to drive to his office.

I lately had to go again (to a different optometrist) and I recited this story. He said they have to have their equipment cleaned and sometimes the cleaners throw off the calibration. He went on to say he now always checks his calibration after having his equipment cleaned.

Moral? They've screwed up if your sight is blurred. Go to a different optometrist or doctor, then send the bill to the first guy.

I tried them but my allergies make my eyes too dry to use them without carrying and using eyedrops every 15 mins.

Sounds like you need to try a new doc.

He should have had prescription right the first time. Having an astigmatism requires alot different lens then regular. I usually where, although haven't in the last 6 mnths do to an infection but they quit making the lens for my eye with an astigmatism so he has to find something new....

Make sure you lens for the eye with the astigmatism is a TORQUE lens, not sure on the spelling but pronounced the something like that....

Astigmatism is best corrected by "hard" gas permeable lenses.

They are a bit harder to get used to.

I don't wear mine as much for two reasons, I'm starting to need bifocals and the allergies.

But I've worn the various types for 30 years, from original hard contacts to all the various types of gas permeable ones.

Keep them clean. ;)

They use toric lenses for people with astigmatism. These lenses are usually weighted because they are not supposed to rotate when you blink, unlike standard contact lenses they have multiple powers within them. However, sometimes they do rotate when you blink and vision gets blurry. This happened when I tried them. I was told that when astigmatism is more severe the toric lenses work better because they don't move around as much.

Im positive that my latest set said "toric" on the box. But why can i see so well with the same original prescription(contacts) in eye glasses?

Guys thannks for all of the replies!

BTW I went back to my 1st eye place and asked them to compare the newest numbers to the ones on file from 3 years ago. They stated the numbers were almost identical to the old script.

So im tending to believe that there is another issue here. Either the wrong lens style.... Or as the above post may be an allergic complication. Im allergic to just about everything. When i put eye drops in , my vision clears up some what but it doesnt last ...

What is weird is that I took to contacts like Ive had them all my life. I just got in there , put them on and all was fine. The contacts didnt bother me much if any and i didnt feel the need for continuous eye drops..

I guess Ill try another Dr and do as Chris C said...send the old DR the bill...

Once you get a set you can really see clear thru,DONT,I repeat DONT look into a mirror,You may not like what you see:D

I also have astigmatism and wore toric lenses for about 3 years. What I found is that as the day wears on, they dried out and then had a tendency to rotate and stick in the wrong orientation. It really was a hassle that I didn't care for. Although putting in and removing lenses is no problem for me, I can't do eyedrops so there wasn't much of a good solution to the problem for me other than glasses.

I will also say that my glasses correct my vision FAR better than my contacts did, which my optometrist told me was probable due to the specifics of my eye problems. He actually recommended glasses way back when I got the contacts but I opted for the contacts anyways.

If you have an astigmatism that is very bad, contacts can be a pain. My wife has been trying various ones for some time and can't find any that let her see both near and far. Or if you need bifocals, contacts may not be the best solution.

For those suffering from DRY EYES with contacts, try Accuvue Oasys lenses! These are designed to let your eyes breath. Regular Accuvue make my eyes itchy and red after a half day or so...the Oasys lenses feel great all day and night....

The key is to NEVER SLEEP in them either!
