Bruce (RIP) did this a number of years ago. It did make an improvement in power. He used an eDist (no longer available?) to sync and sequence the individual coils. And a set of the early LS1 coils mounted on the valve covers.

ECM still controlled the timing.

The only downside was the long cranking times. IIRC, the eDist needed to see two cam sensor pulses to sync up.

So in other words my friend may be on the right track...is converting to cop or cnp something I can do my self with understanding and help...I read the bob bailey thread and credit his inovation .. but im kind of interested now in being able to set up something similar myself...which cars coils can I use..and where would I tap those coils to.I understand the stock computer will work with this but what about the stock ignition module ..will this be used ...

The coils can be any of the LS/LQ ones. GM cars and trucks use the coils.

I don't believe that the ignition module gets used. Although maybe for powering the cam & crank sensors.

The coils have 4 pins: +12 V power & ground for power. Then a reference ground and the trigger input. With the eDist the last two get wired to it. With the power ground going to the engine block.
