My converter just started making a rattling sound. It doesn't do it when it's locked up or in P. It is a 2800 stall lockup that has very few miles on it. Hasn't seen the track. Is it going bad ?

Check the bolts holding the converter to the trans. It will make a rattling noise when you have it in drive from a stop to acceleration. They sometimes come loose of not torqued properly.

I've seen crankshaft bolts loosen and cause the same thing.

Assuming all is tight. Drop the pan and look for excessive metal. Commonly, when the T/C starts to rattle, it will also create metal debris.

check flywheel for cracks and be sure the bolts are tight before pulling it down or dropping the pan.
