converting Handi Cam clips

my son and his friends have footage on a Sony Handi cam and are having trouble burning it on to a DVD disc or sending the file via email . It just shows up as x's at the recieving end of the email . . is their some kind of program needed to convert the digital signal ??? thanks .

What file format are you saving it as?

Straight off the camcorder, I think the file size may be a little bigger than your E-mail server can handle.

Unless you are talking about a 2 - 5 second clip, you'll need to compress it/convert it to something smaller like a .wmv

Windows movie maker in XP will do this.
