Cool things to do in Raleigh, NC?

I'll be staying in Raleigh for a couple days during my journey to Florida for Thanksgiving and am looking for any cool things to do or see while I'm there.

I like cars (obviously), motorcycles, guns, power tools, heavy equipment, and alcohol (damn, I'm starting to scare myself! )

Any suggestions for sights within an hour drive or so? Or even anything close to 95 along my route?

Theres wilmington.. 1.5 Hours from Raleigh down I 40.. HAs a battleship, beaches and other things to do..

In raleigh downtown there are some museums, in Benson (20 miles) theres an 1/8 track with test and tune. and if you are here sat the 22nd there is the 4th annual GN GS/TTA/ Syty shootout in farmington.

Raleigh is a decent town to hang out in.

You may want to check out Mitch's Tavern on Hillsborough St. in Raleigh- that's where part of Bull Durham was filmed. Also a good place to eat lunch and have a pitcher.

The Char-Grill on Hillsborough towards downtown makes a really freakin' good burger and is a local icon.

Downtown Raleigh has a ton of good drink/eat spots. I'd recommend Greenshields, 42nd st. oyster bar, and the Flying Saucer.

Franklin St. in Chapel Hill is also worth checking out.

I'll be in Raleigh the weekend of 11/22 and 12/6 (coming back home from FL). I'm visiting my sister... who used to live in Wilmington (I've been on the battleship 3 times now ).

Any Nascar race shops nearby? Or any "car related" places for that matter?

There is this bar/nascar something in Pittsboro (20 min from Raleigh) I will try to find out the skinny on it. Remember Sat is the Buick/SyTY Shootout...

That is the first place i would check out!!!!!
Maybe you can get lucky and arrange your visit to pick up a b'ball game.We have 2 or 3 schools that are pretty decent- and pretty close together.

We have more than a battleship in Wilmington---we have...uh.....well......um---we have beaches--prolly won't help me at the beginning of december though huh

The Buick/SyTy shootout definately sounds cool. According to Yahoo! Maps, Farmington is a little over 2 hours West of where I'll be. I'd like to go, but it'll all depend on what my sister has planed.
