Is the idiot light the top lh sensor in the intake manifold? If I replace that with a sending unit for a temp gage, will I affect anything or just won't ever get the light? (Instead reading my gage)

The idiot light sensor is sticking out the front of the intake to the passenger side of the thermostat. That's the only one you want to replace by the gauge sensor.

You can also remove the sensor facing up on the DS side of the thermostat housing. It's the single wire sensor with a GRN/YEL wire going to it.

That' the one that commands hi fan speed at some stupid high temp. If you've already jumped out the fan resistor (you have, haven't you...) It won't change a thing. Plus you can ground that wire with a switch to have a manual hi-speed control if you want.

oh, and your idiot light will still work. :)
