If there was a way to cool the exhaust air in the up pipe would that make a difference in performance?

Yes. You'd loose quite a bit. The heat of the exhaust is what spools the turbo.

Oh so its the heat that spools it. I thought it was the air pressure. Do they do the same with the intecooled cars? If not, How do they spool the turbo on them?

The intercooled setup is better, as there is no long exhaust up-pipe to the turbo; the turbo is right off the header. No time to lose heat or pressure, turbo spools right up.

The exhaust expands as it comes out of the engine and is still burning to some degree. As it heats up it provides energy to drive the exducer. Loss of heat is one of the ways it will effect the spool of the turbo. The shortest path for the exhaust to get to the turbo the faster it will spool. One of the reasons that a slightly larger up pipe works on a HA is it allows for the exhaust to expand faster which spools the turbo faster.

Powder coating the up pipe and headers will keep more heat in which will keep the energy in and lower under hood temps.

Thats good to know. I just changed the up pipe to a slightly larger pipe. I probably wont powder coat it but wrap it instead. That should hold in the heat better no?

The heat wrap will help but it will also cause the pipe to rust so you need to keep an eye on it.

So the best bet is to have it coated somehow. I dont think the powder coating will hold do you? I read inposts something about jet coating?

I ment to say ceramic coating. I have a tendancy to clump them together.

So far so good! Gonna end up taking it off again to coat it but I will deal with that headache when the time comes.. Do me a favor if you can and if you didnt already.
