Cooling with a front mount intercooler?

My dad has a BA front mount intercooler and at 60 mph it is over 200 degrees with the air on. I live in Texas so the humidity is high and temp outside was 95 today. Is this normal?
 
do you have dual fans?? and what condition is your radiator in ?

My daily driver GN has a PTE front mount on it with the stock fan, and i dont have a cooling problem even with a/c on in trafffic here in Corpus

He still has the stock fan. He has a aluminum radiator that is only three years old.
 
might consider upgrading to the dual fan setup..

is the BA intercooler 4inch thick?

The small intercooler is 4 inches think and then there is 5 inches and up.

yeah thats what im thinking.. cooling with a/c in south texas with a 4 or 5 inch intercooler might be a problem...
 
I thought riding down the highway the radiator would have enough air flow? I would expect the car to get warm in stop and go traffic but not on the highway.
 
do this just to make sure.. take the car out on the freeway and get it up to the temp it runs at with the a/c on... and pull over and feel the radiator core and see if its the same temp from top to bottem..

I have seen radiators even a 2-3 years old get clogged up before..
 
and is the car converted over to R-134A ?? with the stock condensor ??

what temps does it run at with the a/c off is really what i need to know
 
sounds like it just might need more air flow.. " dual fans with a caspers harness"

Do those fans stick out any farther than the stock fan? The intercooler pipes are close.

Depends. If it's a Griffin radiator then no, you're stuck with a boat anchor.
Griffins were designed for high speed racing applications (nascar, etc.) and have a very high "fin per inch" count (between 17-18fpi). This great on a 200 mph stock car, but absolutely sucks on a street car that can't generate the flow needed.

If it's not a griffin, disregard.

None the less, you'll need to look at the dual fan setup running a good big front mount.
 
You might want to box in the radiator so air doesn't go around the radiator. ATR used to sell a kit. Does anyone else make one now?

ps...I don't think 200F is too high for coolant temp! Anyone want to chime in?
