Looking for a gift for my dad. Hes a mechanic going on 30 plus years. Looking to get em an cordless impact wrench for his jobs at home and around the house, where he doesnt hafta lug a compressor. I have looked at the dewalts and even looked at Snap on, which my dad has one at work, but its 500 bucks. Not in my budget. 250 is the max. I was looking at this kit DW059K-2 1/2" (13mm) 18V Cordless XRP
I found it for under 250 bucks. Any other suggestions or opinons appreciated

The $300 dewault is nice, I use it all the time, but to get off really stuck stuff requires a fully charged battery or air. You get what you pay for.

I have and use them but they are Snap on and that's a whole different world of price ranges

Snap-on is way outta my range.. I think im going to go with what I posted. its 18 volts comes with 2 batteries an a charger. 300ft lbs of tq, Plenty for lug nutz and around the house. Plus if in the future , He can always upgrade to lithium batteries

i picked up two of the 18v Dewalt ones, one for me and one for my Brother and we are both happy with them.

I have that one. I am not happy with it. I actually brought it to get repaired because it would not take lugs off. It still isn't great. Meaning that if there is a hard lug on, it won't take it off. I know the Snap-On one is WAY more expensive but it is WAY better. The tow guy I know uses that one and it takes almost everything off. For the ones it doesn't=6 foot breaker bar :) Guess for around the house non-emergency it might be good. But for emergency, carry-in-trunk situations, Snap On is the one. HTH.

Sears is running the 19.2 volt, 1/2 drive craftsman for $99. I bought one because I didn't have one. I'm very impressed for the money, has good power. I may go get another at that price.

I went with the makita. This thing can break your arm and it holds a charge forever. I was convinced by a mechanic buddy of mine who has had a makita cordless drill for 14 years and he can still drill holes in his 68 Nova frame with it. Oh yeah and his is only a 7.5 volt version.

wait until after Xmas.. Dewalt has a new line of 20 volt tools that cost about the same as the current 18 volt models.. they don't have the impact out yet, but i've played with the 1/2" drill at Home Depot and that thing has power- like "snap your wrist really hard if you hold it in the air and pull the trigger" power.. if the 20 volt impact wrench is anything like that drill, it's worth waiting for.. at the very least the 18 volt models will be deeply discounted when they are totally superseded by the 20 volt models...

Thanks Getchasum, I ended up going with this impact gun.. 200ft lbs is plenty enough power for around the house. Def help my dad from lugging the compressor around to do sum jobs. Plus he already has a craftsmen drill with 3 other 19.2v batteries, So its a win win. Plus for 100 bucks I got another battery and a better charger.. thanks again.

I was looking at the dewalts, but the extra 200 bucks isnt worth it imo. For only 50 more ft lbs. Plus Craftsmen has a better warrenty for their products then dewalts 2 yr lousey warrenty.

I have one I use at the track I bought at Pep boys in 2002 .It still works and it is a 24v goodyear.I paid 100 for it and just looked on their website it is on sale for 69.00 .Im going to get another one

Bobby can you post a link? I tried searching their website and could not find it. May stop at a store today. I could probably sell it on ebay and make money if I don't like it at that price. :D

Sears has a nice deal man.. Craftsmen impact wrench 200ft lbs. Battery and charger for 100bucks.. Or you can get two batteries for 125. Noth great deals considering batteries are 80 bucks. I played with it a lil yesterday, Almost broke my wrist with its torque
