I just replaced the shift kit and filled the trans with 7 qts. From what I can tell on the dipstick it is just starting to come up on the stick. I admit its difficult to get a good reading for some reason. It is the stock trans and dipstick. Now I am concerned that I have overfilled. I still have the car on jackstands checking pressures and when I put the last of the 7th bottle in I put it in reverse and it started to make a weird high pitch hum noise.
What could be happening? Thanks

paul

Seeing you messed with the trans the hum noise maybe Tv valve/cable stuck at full line pressure.Or loss of prime because the VB was out.the prime issue should go away flairly quickly after engaging the trans in reverse and drive a few times. For the TV try pulling the tv cable a few times while its running and see if it go"s away.Over filling a trans wont hurt it,under filling it is bad.It is full now correct? If not it maybe sucking air and causing the noise also.

New shift kit?

If you added bigger boost valves etc to increase line pressures, the PR valve may cause an odd, new noise. I believe there is an article in the trans tech section that addresses this problem. The valve can be removed and modified without removing the transmission. Keep us updated on your progress, always eager to learn what fixes the 'weird' problems in these trans. Good luck, John.

Overfilling can hurt a trans. Too much and it gets up into the drums and churns it up and causes lots of bubbles. Bubbles compress and clutches burn when trying to be applied. One quart over usually doesn't hurt the 200-4R but a few quarts can kill a trans.

I cant say i have ever seen that happen before, usually it will spit out the vent if its that overfilled.
