Weird trans pressures, no reverse, 2-3 bind

Trans is out and pumps apart. No obvious indications of why it can’t make spec pressure. Digging deeper
 
Trans is out and the pump is out. Nothing obvious to me yet. Do y’all see anything that could lead to the low pressure issue? I’m going to recheck the pump clearance, and do some more digging,

Make sure the pr valve has a hole in the end of it. Also make sure your pump slide has the o ring under the slide ring. Etc etc.
 
The slide ring and o ring seal were in place. I will check the PR valve (I have 3 now). The rings, rotor, guide, and vanes all look the way when I installed them. The quest continues....
 
HIGH PRESSURES !!!!! Your pressures are on the moon! LOOK at no TV at 1000 rpm in park ! My Lord! 155? This is a BRF VB and no other fancy smanchie things your leaving out , correct? All your pressures are goofy. :unsure::unsure:
I would love to see the PR valve train JUST AS IT COMES OUT OF PUMP exploded. I got a funny feeling...……….... Are you running a Sonnax .300 int boost valve per chance? What other or whos .555 are you running? I thought I saw that somewhere. PR spring and would love to see close up of the PR valve itself. Like I said as it comes out and in order and exploded. Up close.
Also, the LU pipe..... scares me......

Yes you are right WE4 the park pressure is crazy high; my focus has been on the 1st and second gear pressures being so low. But I assume it’s all part of the same problem.

I’ll give you all a rundown on all pump modifications just so we are all on the same page. The castings are 690/088. The following upgrade parts are CK. It has a 10 vane billet rotor, .555tv valve, .300 lo/rev boost, high rate pressure regulator spring, revised pressure regulator valve, performance calibrated dual pump slide spring.

The pump has been modified with the PI lockup valve exhaust return tube, the seal drain back has been enlarged to .25”. And a stainless steel washer added between the base of the pressure relief spring and the retaining nail.

I’ll remove the pressure regulator valve train tonight and post pictures as requested.

The pump slide is the same one that came out. I checked the new rotor and it was the same thickness as the cast iron one that came out.
When setting the pump up I checked the rotor in the pump housing also but using the unreliable method (now I’m learning) of using a straight edge and feeler gauges. I think I made the mistake of checking the pump slide in the body with the o-ring seal and ring in place, shouldn’t the slide be checked for clearance in the housing without the o ring and slide ring?

All of that being said I’m hoping my clearances are off combined with warped pump halves leading to this issue. I hope to be able to true up the halves and correct rotor/slide/pump clearance issues using a method some of you have posted using a surface plate and sand paper. At this point I hope that’s all the issue is. I’m concerned that it could be the trans case and all this effort still doesn’t fix the problem. Sure would be nice if I could find a trans dyno to test on before re installing it in the car. Anyway that’s where I’m at right now; I appreciate all the help and insight you all are providing. What does the ball under the spring on that pressure relief valve look like? I've seen rusted ones that didn't seal well.
I do think you have too much clearance on the slide if you measured with the seal in place. I guess the pocket is decent and doesn't "catch a fingernail" on the bottom. The vanes in good shape and fit the "new" rotor well. Hard rings top and bottom on the vanes keeping them in position.

Yes to all of the queries TexasT. The pressure relief check ball looked good but will revalidate nothing got pumped into it on start up.

Found the pump slide anywhere from .004-.006” clearance and the rotor .003-.005” , checked 4 quadrants with the plastigage. That’s a problem!

Also I think I may have figured out the high pressure at “0 TV” in park. How far should the TV plunger be depressed at “0 TV”? See the first pic, that’s what it was at, vs the second pic with the plunger fully out. The j pin was sideways and caught between the VB and the mechanism, not in the TV exhaust hole. When tightened down it depressed the TV almost half way and I didn’t catch it! Until now!

I was looking for an exploded vb pic to post but this can be a start to compare to what you have.

turn the valve over with the large blue line 180 degrees pic again
Measure the length of the valve with the two tiny lines between the lines.
Where did you get this PR system from? I would also make 1 other mod.

I did find the old one and show a pic of the two side by side and the measurement difference between the lines as you requested. What other mod did you have in mind?

What was the results
No results yet. Surface plate should be here this week. Then i’ll Parallel the pump halves , do some PR valving validation and re install and check pressures again. Might be 1-2 more weeks before I have numbers to post due to other commitments. I’ll keep the group posted.
