Something at every turn :(
It appears that the hub that goes between the harmonic dampener (call it balancer for short) and the crank pulley requires machining for a proper fit. Of all the Eagle crank stuff I have read about, I have not noticed this mentioned.

The BHJ balancer is also not perfectly round!?!?!? The ring that the pulley hub fits on to is 2.124" to 2.134", the stock balancer measures 2.118 to 1.119", and the pulley hub has a hole that measures 2.121" exactly.

The pulley hub also appears to be drilled for balance. Since the stock assembly has been balance before this internal balance assembly, I am not sure WTH is up with the balance on this hub. My machine shop did not do anything with that part when working the BHJ/Eagle crank/JW flex plate. Since the hub and pulley bolts to the balancer, it would seem as if those parts require something too - like at least a neutral balance.

QUESTIONS:
1) About how much do you think it would cost to have the hub honed out to fit the BHJ and to have it neutral balanced - or at least checked for neutral balance?

2) Is it RJC that makes those nice aluminum hub and pulley assemblies? How much for that and if they are made for the stock balancer, will I still just be in the same shoe?

Maybe RJC can make me one with a slightly bigger hole for the BHJ balancer.

I run an RJC crank pulley on my BHJ balance. No issues. Drops right on. :)

if your ballancer is out of round by ten thousandths you need to have it machined. I can see one thousandth but ten is just shoddy workmanship and poor quality.

our pulleys measure 2.124 and we have no issues mounting them on a BHJ ballancer that has been machined correctly.

the reason that the pulley hub as you call it has so many drilled ballanced holes is because it is a cast piece of junk and that is the amount they had to take off to make it "neutral" ballanced.

to make sure you understand the ballancing of a buick 6, here is a little refresher. Stock they add/subtract weight to the flywheel and the stock ballancer and nothing to the crank it self. thus the externally ballanced. The stock and aftermarket crank pulleys are ballanced neutral so you can change them from one to another without affecting the ballancing.

With your setup they ballance the crank by itself without the flywheel and ballancer attached. The flywheel and ballancer are then ballanecd neutral like the crank pulley. now they are no longer specific to that one motor.

if you have the kind of money in a motor that requires a BHJ ballancer, you would have to be crazy to put heavy cast stock crank pulley back on

Hey Jace, I picked up a BHJ balancer (external)from Len a few weeks ago. Would I be safe bolting it right on, or should I wait for the next time its apart and re-balance?
p.s. Why aren't you on your way here yet?????

I needed a crank and was told the stock stuff would work with the Eagle crank, and the difference in price between the Eagle and a stock crank was not that much...but then the story changed. This all happened as work s-l-o-w-e-d way down for me too.

I just can't see putting any $$ in the cast pulley.

Thought the BHJ was a quality part, but then it would not be the first time I ordered top quality new stuff only to find problems. But before I go off on the BHJ dampener I should take it off for even closer inspection - kinda hard to measure while it is on the engine but I did repeat the measurements several times.

Same problem with fitment here. Checked 4 BHJ dampers and all of them were the same Dia. MSD crank trigger wouldn't fit.

I had a new JW flexplate that needed addtional zero balancing too. Don't assume anything.

WOW - So I'm not the only one.

The BHJ balancer needed 4 max width and depth holes to balance and my JW Flexplate needed some holes too.

Race Jace got your pulley on the way and that is not the only part of yours on my car :) . Just could not invest anything into that cast pulley/hub. I called that because, as you know I'm sure, the stock pulley bolts to that cast hub that bolts to the dampener. Just trying to be clear on what I was talking about.

With a part the way you make it, it does not seem like it should need balancing. Billet turned down would be right on - Right?

yes it will be exact.

Thanks Jason.
And now that I already have mine on the way it is safe to say; that big chunk of aluminum, all that machining, and then polishing - how do you do it for such a good price!?!?
