Cranks but won't start

Gave a 1979 Buick turbo regal with the 3.8 turbo, engine cranks over but doesn't start, there is gas coming out the carb, power coming into the distributor unsure if it's firing at the plug yet.

Remember the 3 famous things that make an engine run: fuel, spark, compression! If you got fuel going into the cylinders and spark on all cylinders, do a compression check on all cylinders. If any ONE cylinder has low compression, it can cause a no start condition.

Well I drove the car in Fall 08 parked due to an oil leak. So Im inclined to believe the missing element is spark

I review the information but most of the info is geared towards the EFI models

No spark = bad crank sensor

And check ignition module if the car has injector pulse.

the crank sensor is near the front around crank pulley mounts to front cover

Does it have an HEI style Dist.? Could just be the module in the Dist.!! Craig

Yes it has the HEI distributor but it also has a box running off it labeled Turbo Control Center. What does this box do?

Thats for the Knock sensor! Just google (79 buick turbo control center)! Or try the search option on this site!
