crankshaft specialist

Ive had one break that was Chromed back to standard.I talked to them before and they told me they cut the crank back .060 and build it back.. I guess it all depends on how much power your going to make and how bad it was hurt. I wouldnt use one that had black death. As cheap as the off shore cranks are id rather use one of those.

they told me they dont cut them at all now. mine was .020 [rods] with one jurnal slight damage. crank is bms 008 3.590 stroke, i guess ill find out if it breaks or the chrome comes off,

Crank

Crankshaft Specialties are great guys and do good work, their shop would surprise you.

Anyone ever had a undersize crank cromed to standard? if so any problems?

OC, I had them do a couple cranks for me 3 or 4 years ago. It was all bad!!!
Lied , cheated , and ruined 3 cranks. Anyone that wants to see them I have them holding down a couple of shelves. Thats my 2 cents. Mike:(

crankshaft spec,

mike, thanks info. its a little too late as i allready got it back from them.it was supposed to be standard not .010 under. as far as looks its ok, i got it polished and i think it will work. i just got po. because i paid for them to make it standard. i have called 6 times and got their recording and i left messages to call me, so far nothing, jim rock said he never has had a problem with them, he still uses them, jim dotson said he has had them to do work also no problems, so i guess so me people are just lucky,:(

I dont think Rock has used them for a long time cause he hasent needed anything done. Seemed that it was all going bad at that time for them. They couldnt even take a credit card and I had to send a money order. Well I paid dearly for that mistake!!! Hope yours is good!!! Mike:cool:

crank

I had one done in 1989 and it was beautiful, but due to the power we made with it it broke at the #5 rod journal, nothing to do with the chrome work, it was a bms 3.590.
I had one done about three years ago and it was just awful, they wanted to be paid in advance ( didn't happen) and when it arrived some two months later it still had rough spots in the journal I specifically told them to repair. Makes you think the owner had some problems and may still have.
I regretably recommended a friend send his lotus crank to them and the size and finish was so bad he threw the 600.00 crank ( that was the repair bill) in the dumpster and bought a 2000.00 new crank.
You asked and I answered.

Without going into detail, thats fairly close to my stories!!! Needless to say he wont ever do any work for me again or be recommended by me again!!!
Thats about all I have , or need to say about it. Mike:(

I use Mile High Cranksaft but i dont think they chrome.Crower sent me to them, but like i said before i dont think id use any repaired crankshaft again.

Odell do you mind saying what one crank cost to do that??

I'm regretting going 20 under and supposedly straightening my stock crank, it's either a cut or a new crank for me from now on.

Not at all. it cost 600.00 plus 78.00 UPS

Guys,

Stay as FAR away from Doug Rowe and Crankshaft Specialist as possible. They used to have a respectable reputation, but now they are known to be crooks. If you have a few minutes, GOOGLE them and you may be enlightened.

Doug Rowe and Crankshaft Specialist's days in terms of doing business as normal, are numbered. He got me (so he thinks) on a crank job, but it's not over. He's being looked at from more than one angle. It just takes time for some things to work out...I can wait. But it's a real shame what happened to his web site and all! ;)

Doug called me monday afternoon and said he was sorry about the mix up. seems like an employee made the mistake and machine it to .010 . he said send it back he would pay shipping both ways and they would make it standard, i informed him i had it polished and allready had .010 bearings and it was in the block along with the rods and pistons, he replied the next time i hurt it he would do it free if i paid shipping. so ill see how long it will last,
