QUESTION: What is the best way of removing all the factory rust inhibitor off a new crate short block ??? GM covered the entire block with this substance in and out....pistons,cylinders,crank,rods....I mean everything....It started to pick up some airborne particles and I want to remove this stuff before it starts to cause problems...any ideas ,also any solvents used would they damage the cam & main bearings ??? any concerns there that I should have ?

Cosmoline remover. I believe it is cosmoline that is still used for corrosion protection. Don't know where to buy it though. We used to get imported cars and that stuff was all over the engine compartment. We found that spray-can carpet shampoo melted it right off. No idea why it worked but it did. Lacquer thinner would work fine also since there is no paint to damage.
