Trans shifts perfect during upshifts and downshifts when selector is in D.

However, when manually downshifting from 3rd to 2nd it feels like the brakes have been applied, the car will slow down, and it will finally shift into 2nd gear after speed reaches 20 +/- mph!!

Could this be caused by the dual feed modification that was done to the trans the last time it was rebuilt?

Now the trans is starting to flare the 1st to 2nd shift!

Any help/opinions/recommendations is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jerry

it is pointing to a 3/2 exhaust problem caused by ?.difficult to find.dual feeding doesnt cause these problems when done properly.most people dual feed and dont add the bleed hole to the drum and then blame the dual feed.verify that the direct clutch exhaust hole in the vbody is not clogged or closed .if it were me id pull the trans out and inspect everything.

Chris,

A layman's description..... When trans is down shifted MANUALLY into 2nd gear it feels just like the 2nd gear band is tightening on the drum but NOT shifting into 2nd, the car will actually nose over as if the brakes were being moderately applied then release then nose over again, etc., and will finally shift into 2nd at some very slow speed-say 10 mph +/-.

Will be pulling trans one day this week. Will definitely check the items you mentioned above.

Thanks for the help,
Jerry

Chris,

Took your advise. I have the trans out and partially disassembled.

Where do I look for the 3/2 exhaust problem??

Where is the direct clutch exhaust hole in the valve body?

The plug that you refer to in your manual page 108, Figs. 6C-26 & 6C-27 is still in the valve body.....should I remove it??

Appreciate your help,
Jerry
