I am going fking crazy.    I havn't had a cigarrett since Monday and it's driving me nuts. I cannot think and I gots the shakes.
I think now I am addicted to drinking since I need that to stop thinking about smoking.
Anyone have or had this problem? What to do?

Nope never had the problem then again I don't smoke & rarely drink.

I think they make a nicotine gum or patch that might help.
Or
Maybe try going for a long walk.. Seems like you have extra energy maybe you should take up a sport??

Worst thing you can do when quitting is to drink. That's when I (still) have my strongest urges, and it's been 2 years now since I quit. Cut back on drinking a lot too, as a result, take that how you will. ;)
Once you make it about a week, it gets a lot easier. You can't just cut out the smoking, you have to change your habits and times that you used to smoke. Breaking the habit of smoking and not smoking when you would normally do so is the hard part, not so much the nicotine (IMO).
Drink a lot of water, exercise and don't just start eating instead. However, a little weight put on is still a lot better than continuing to smoke.
Patches help take the edge off, but aren't a cure all. Change your habits.

If cold turkey is working for you, keep it up. For me, I had to cut out smoking in steps, a week or month at each step, some are really hard:

1-No smoking in the car (that was easy, I never smoked in my car, but my wife did in hers. I cut out smoking in hers. She's been done with it for about a year now)
2-No smoking at work (breaks, but no smoking)
3-No smoking on the weekend
4-Smoke on the weekend, but not during the week
5-No smoking except when drinking (Don't become a drunk!)
6-No smoking.

I've slipped with one a couple of times when, admittedly, but I felt like crap later, and had no problem with it. No urge to pick it back up. This was very very rare.

When I first quit, I had heard to drink LOTS of OJ... Don't know why, though... Also, I had gotten this newspaper clipping form Ann Landers and read it every time I wanted a smoke. Minus the intro... Here goes

Within 20 minutes: Blood pressure, body temp, and pulse rate will drop to normal.
Within 8 hours: Smoker's breath diasppears, the carbon monoxide level in blood drops, and the oxygen level rises to normal.
Within 24 hours: Chance of heart attack decreases.
Within 48 hours: Nerve endings start to regroup and the ability to taste and smell improves.
Within 3 days: Breathing is easier.
Within 2-3 months: Circulation improves. Walking becomes easier. Lung capacity increases up to 30%.
Within 1-9 months: Sinus congestion and shortness of breath decrease. Cillia that sweep debris from your lungs grow back. Energy increases.
Within 1 year: Excess risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a person who smokes.
Within 2 years: Heart attack risk drops to near normal.
Within 5 years: Lung cancer death rate for average pack-a-day smoker decreases by almost half. Stroke risk is reduced. Risk of mouth, throat, and esophageal cancer is half that of a smoker.
Within 10 years: Lung cancer death rate is similar to that of a person who does not smoke. The precancerous cells are replaced.
Within 15 years: Risk of coronary heart disease is the same as a person who has never smoked.

Worked for me, an old boss, his wife and a few of my friends...
Hope it works for you. And I hope Ann Landers doesn't sue me!!!:D

Yeh I jumped to 6.
It has been a few days and I think the urge is just getting worse. On one hand I should just say what the fk and just smoke. On the other if I stand back and look and think- It is just so stupid to smoke this rolled up weed.

With my luck I will stop and then have a heart attack from jogging or just get hit by a truck.:p

I just had a baby boy so that is prob the main reason for my quitting.

I tried to quit a while back and got a prescription for Zyban. It works, but it's best to stay on it for a few months until the cravings subside. It's kinda pricey, $120 for a months supply, but if you smoke a pack a day, $120 a month is less than you'd spend on smokes. Insurance usually won't cover stop-smoking aids though.

I was on it for 2 months and didn't want to smoke, even when I drank. It didn't bother me to be around other people who were smoking. I simply didn't even think about it. It was kinda wierd! After 2 months I got off of it and after 4 months I was back to smoking (although substantially less). In the end, it's all about will power.

Roger...go outside and fire one up :p

Jim I knew I could count on you!!;) ;) :D
Let's hope it's the fireworks.:p
So far so good.
Hmm maybe if I start ordering GN parts that will take the edge off....twitch twitch.

Zyban worked for me as well. I smoked 2 packs a day for over 20 years. Quit first time with Zyban. Been over 4 years now. I had my doc write me scrip for WellButrin which is the same thing as zyban. Since it isn't specifically for quitting smoking like zyban, insurance covered it.

All sounds good ,,,BUT

Your heart rate decreases and then you burn less calories ,,so you gain weight and then you can start a whole new list for the problems of weight gain-----back to where you started:eek:

I quit. Smoked 3 packs a day. Used an herbal product.

Vitamins company link Use the search feature and put in Nutramerica CigSation.

I was actually calmer on that then on the Nicorette gum.

Was even off of the CigStation in 2 weeks.

Lost 20 lbs since. Exercise is key. Don't be lazy and you'll be 100% better in 3 months.

Try to resist the urge to rationalize why you SHOULD have "just one" at any given point. Your addiction to it is deeply ingrained in your mind as well as the physiological craving. A dear friend of mine, who died last year of lung and brain cancer, quit smoking about 5 years ago. She told me that her mind would try to trick her into having a cigarette. She would have all kinds of dreams where people were trying to get her to smoke, threatening bad things happening, like hurting her children. She finally shook it, but I guess she'd just been at it too long for her body. She had recovered from skin cancer years earlier, so I suspect she was predisposed to it. She did say that she was glad she quit - her quality of life was a lot better for the years after she quit. Quit sooner, rather than later!

I got lectured from the whole damn family over the 4th holiday about smoking. I am now the only cousin who smokes. My Uncle Randy just quit, I was shocked at that. Anyhow, the new way to quit which I've been hearing works great. My Uncle Jimmy , and the earlier mentioned Uncle Randy used it. Neither Uncle knows the other, two different sides of the family, but their doctors recommended the same thing. They used the patch along with Welbutrin(spelling), they both quit in a week. My Uncle Randy even tried a cigarette a week later and he almost threw-up. I'm gonna check this method out.

You don't need a patch or a drug. This is how I quit- Set goals for each day.

Smoke only 4 cigs per day at a set time. Before work, at lunch, at dinner, and before you go to bed. ONLY smoke at those times and do this for 2 weeks. At the end of the 2 weeks, just stop. It's that easy.

The 2 weeks will be tough, but not unbearable, then when you finally quit, the next 4 days will be hell. After the 4 days, the nicotine will be totally out of your system so the actual physical addiction is gone. The mental addiction takes about 2 months- You will have certain 'things' that trigger you to want to go smoke. Now I don't even think about it.
