heys guys, i have some spare money laying around and i also have a big grudge race coming up with a high school buddy.but i HAVE to totally waste him so i was thinking about getting the co2 sprayer with a 16x5in sprayer bar. i think this will add an instant 30-40hp if used right. what you guys think. i was thinking if i just spray the I/C after the burnout for about 5-10 seconds that might do the trick. so please let me know your thoughts on this.

Cody-

Craig did what you are wanting to do. I remember it worked great. check with him.

Mitch

well, i did alittle research and found that it can provide a gain if used right. so i went ahead and bought the kit and a 16x5 I/C sprayer bar. i got a heck of a deal on it also. i'm hoping for a 10th or 2. but we will see. i have seen lots of talk about this but it seems most are afraid to try it so i'm going to step up to the plate and see what this does. i should post results within 2 weeks or so.

It's junk, return it if you can. I used to have that kit on my turbo hayabusa and I DO NOT RECOMMEND it. DEI makes some very nice products but unforntunately this is not one of them. Try their cryo fuel cooler instead, it fits on the inlet to the fuel rail. It works.

The spray bar plumes just diverge everywhere but the IC. Waste of money. I don't know maybe they fixed the design by now but not likely.

Call aquamist instead, they've got some good water/alco injection systems for you.

This may allow a little more boost because charge air will be a little cooler. But the change will be minimal. You will have no gain, unless you raise boost. You may also just be filling under your hood with co2. That will not help combustion if it is sucked into your air filter. I made a system from a washdown pump for a boat, and some garden misters. I use 50/50 water alchohol. It needs to be a very fine mist to lower ambient air about 30degrees. I use this on my subaru wrx, it has a top mount intercooler that can get hot in traffic. I can raise boost about 2psi without any timing pull back. I also have a methanol/ alchohol inj. That is where its at. You can raise boost about 5-7psi. Much better cooling of charge. NO2, and CO2 spray bars are a little for show, and not much go.

Nope.Using it might lead to stress cracks,co2 hampers combustion, and unless your IC is heat soaked it might give 1 hp.

Nw the Supra guys who use em,and they do work. Then again, after a 4 or 5 minute full throttle blast on a course ANY IC would get hot.Do that with a TR and youd be lucky to make it 2-3 minutes unless youve got a built satge2.

Alky will lower your intake temps more and help make more hp.$50 says you pull the co2 after a month.

make stress cracks? huh? in what? How about riding in the rain? Power carwash? There will be no stress cracks, I put ice, and sometimes dry ice on my suby intercooler. 28psi, and low 11s, high 10s.....from a 2.0. 3100# car.

an alcohol kit would have been a better choice. spray alky and raise the boost about 8lbs or so :D .
i have watched a few GSX's and Talons with huge frount mounts at the track. after a few hot laps they would spray their intercooler for a long time. they would run again and i saw no difference in their times. hopefully you will do better

well, i got the kit installed and i went to get the bottle filled with LIQUID co2 and idiot me did not weigh it or anything and the guy just filled it up without weighing it. so i realized what he did wrong when i got home. so i was stuck with like 3-4lbs. of co2. it worked very well when the liquid came out but when the liquid ran out it blowed dry co2 and it did squat without the liquid. so i took it to another shop today that could fill it full of 10lbs and i will post up how long it lasts and track times to come within next month. but when it sprayed the liquid co2 it cooled the I/C very well with just spraying it for 2-3 seconds!

finally, i have SOME results, but still have lots more testing to do. i went to the track a week ago and ran a 7.49@91 or so, then i used the CO2 and i ran a 7.46@91....but with a 1.61 60"!! with a 10lb. launch on stock converter, spinning the tires!! blew me away. the best i could ever get before that was a 1.67 consistently. so i don't know if the 60" was a fluke or if the CO2 helped it off the line just as i thought. i think spraying it down the track is a waste cause when you start moving the I/C fins go to work and theres no need for the CO2, the reason i think its good for launching power is that there is no air moving across the I/C, and it's sitting there getting hot from boost. so spraying it for at least 10 seconds right before i stage will help alot hopefully. but when i had that 1.61 60", i only purged the CO2 for 2-3 secs. or so. and let me tell you, it came out of the hole hard and i got instant boost. i don't know if it was a state of mind or if it really worked, but the time slip doesn't lie. i will be going to the dyno this weekend to try it out back to back runs with and without it.i will keep you guys updated.

Turbocody,
I was doing a search on this subject. what ever happened with your research?

thanks

This has been discussed several times before over the years. The only thing that everybody in general agrees with is that most tracks will not allow it. Spraying stuff under the hood on the track is just too risky, in the opinion of the tech inspectors. Even CO2 can cause condensation to drip on the track, while the CO2 will evaporate and go off to join the other greenhouse gasses. But is interesting to see some actual results.

Yeah, I'm would like to some some results also. I also believe most guys on here do more street driving than track racing.

Your ET didnt change and your traps didnt either, proving there is no extra hp. You need an alky kit. You can raise the boost way up, and at the same time it decreases the HELL out of the intake charge temps. The up-pipe will be iced up after a pass from being so cold.
Given your impressive parts combo, with an alky kit and some good tuning, you'll have a VERY fast car there.
Crap. I just realized this thread is 2 years old. Who pulled this up?
