First run of the new race year on a bone stock block w/ 152,000 miles. Turned 12.2's at 113mph last year on Razor's progressive alky at 22#s with 36# injectors and a TE44. Been running 25#s on the street since December w/ no knock issues whatsoever (thanks Eric Marshall!). I now have 009's, a Q-Boost controller, and was looking to hit 12.0's. I launched at 8#'s on MT slicks, ran into traction problems, didn't register knock until 3rd gear and then saw the puff of smoke out the rear view mirror. I'm pretty certain that I overboosted, which caused the blown head gasket. Fortunately it was between the #4 cylinder and the valley. Compression test showed all other cylinders between 150 and 160.
So, now I'm wondering what caused the overboost. When I returned to the pits I had oil along the passenger wheel well and the upper hose had popped off the egr solenoid. Could that have caused the boost problem, or would that be more a consequence of overboost?
Thanks,
Tim
