Anybody have trouble with the VHX Dakota digital dash tachometer that works only when headlights are on and higher amperage draw from electrical circuit? I can unhook alternator and it reads perfect. I have the tach buffer from Dakota installed. I have verified good ground, good hot and good signal from negative coil also. I'm scratching my head. Tech dept. at Dakota pretty much told me good luck....Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have also verified alternator output which is correct. When I have the headlights on the tach works without fluttering around until the volt booster kicks in and then it fails completely. I am perplexed and disappointed at the support from Dakota, especially with the universal instructions they sent with the dash. They are definitely not vehicle specific.
