The PCV valve provides a suction , and therefore a movement of fresh air, thru the crankcase. The fresh air enters the valve covers either valve cover breathers, or in a totally stock car, from the air inlet on the turbo inlet bell.

If the PCV valve is left dangling and open, Yes, the correct controlled "leak" of air into the throttle body for correct MAF calibration will occur.

But unless PCV is sucking directly out of the crankcase, breathers alone will not create the constant movement of fresh air thru the crankcase to carry off the corrosive vapors and moisture.

Could a person just use a check valve and filter from a vacuum brake setup?
Wouldn't this take care of all the problems?
 
When at the track plug the pvc and run without it, will not hurt anything and you don't worry about a possible leak in the pcv under high boost.
But always run it on the street with a check valve, do not drive without it! Carl's setup with the Fram G3 fuel filter is a good idea also.
 
I actually use a water/oil seperator for compressed air applications (home or shop compressor) You can get them at Sears or anyplace that sells compressors. Just plumb the intake side into the direction the arrow is pointing on the dryer, and the PCV side goes in the other side. This is so the flow thru the dryer is going the proper direction. I mounted it in front of the pass. side wheel, up under the fender. I had to make a few fittings, but what else is new:D Mark
 
THAT'S IT!!!!! I'm sick of the smoke on start up! Brand new engine and it smokes on start up just like before. Took the plenum off and intake is coated with oil. Does't matter what PCV valve I use, I've tried em all. There, that's the end of that!:mad:
 
WHAT A F@#$#@ MISTAKE!!!!!! Checked my oil today, white milkshake:eek: Thought I blew my first HG. NOT!!! The oil was fine just everywhere the blowby gases come out was white puddin. I'll keep on puffin thanks!
 
I am having the same problem---- New motor, blue smoke, loss of oil AND ITS CAUSE OF THE PCV!!!!!!

I am using a valley pan intake gasket.


What is the correct part number for the PCV to use?

No, you're forgetting what I said about needing the "correct" amount of metered vacuum at that point. Check valves DO NOT provide that. If you must run a check valve (I wont go there), then run it with the PCV, not in place of it.

factory recomended every 7500 miles so i dont see no downsides to it.

the only time it does anything is when you have vacuum and if you drive like me mines not on the vacuum side of the gauge too often.

only thing it does if pull fresh air in the breathers and pulls fumigated air into the intake.

to me i'd rather change my oil more than have oil residue in my intake and be getting knock.

i ran my hotair and my i/c motor with no pcv and havent seen no downsides to it.

i just leave the pcv valve in the hole and plug it where it comes from the t/b or even better put vacuum brakes on it and run your hose to it..:)

What you see running out of your oil pan doesn't reflect what's left in your engine!! Running without a PCV only takes a few miles to start the damage on a "driver". You wont see it in the oil you drain, but be prepared for a serious shock the next time you pull your engine apart. You aren't going to like what you find. The thick nasty sludge that you're going to find aint goin' to be pretty.
 
A few miles, you ain't sh%$#^!!!! It was less than 100! Turbo Dave, you don't have to rub it in....................Well maybe a little:D
 
I know this wil sound dumb, but changing the PCV was the hardest thing I've done, even harder that changing the fuel pump or the plugs or building my Cold Air System.

There must be a trick to pushing the PCV into the grommet without pushing the grommet into the valley pan.

I use lube on the PCV, silicone on the grommet. Finally I removed most of the shoulder on the engine side of the PCV to get it in.

That's odd... my PCV slips easily in & out of the grommet. I use just a little vaseline to make it a bit slippery.

i go in it once in a while and check things out..

matter fact im pulling it out tonight and will be going in it..

blew my tranny up again yesterday and sending my converter out to be loosened up so good time to check my bottom end out and make sure all looks good and im gonna mill my intake down to line my ports back up since im running single steel shims now my intake sits too high.

keep in mind with my total seal rings im not getting all the blowby some get.

next event i have planned so far is running in the import demestic shootout at budds creek maryland if anyone wants to come up it is Nov. 10th

i plan to put some supras to shame.:D
