this week I am planning 2 throw on the decals...

I have never done this .....need some input...

thanks

naaahh....they look great on the car ...gives it character....

now tell me whats the best way 2 put em on and any guides torward exact locations

i know you know... :D

I'm most certainly not positive. But fairly sure that there were no guides for decals as there were for the fender emblems. Some dealers put those on, most left them in the (delivered later usually) owners kit.

That said, there's tons of pics available to give you an idea of placement.

And, do a search. I think I read a thread not too long ago that they're like the models when we were kids. Need to get it wet then let it sit once it's placed to dry??

Haven't checked my owners kit. But that's what I think I read...

hold it ...i'm confused...are they water decals..?? or stick ons..??

bcs I peeled a little coner off on the winshield one and it was tacky like a sticker.....I have the manual and all the owners kit material and I disnt see anything on installing...

Honesty not sure. That's what I read, but haven't look at or installed mine.

You'll absolutely figure that part out. Don't be concerned.

Placement is the bigger concern. And even then, not so much. Take a look at some pictures, and make your best guess.

There is no "correct" placement and you'll never be judged by it in a car show. Again, since most of the owners kits with decals were mailed to us.

just noticed your in evanston....I'm on the northside ...northwest hwy and harlem area...

Go to a sticker company such as sticker dude in lake zurich and have duplicates made. keep the originals and put the new ones on the car. Otherwise when the cars are big time collector cars you can say you still have everything original!!! ;)

yes - search for the thread about a month old - it has pics showing the 2 locations for the door decals. some are in front of the door handles, some are below the door handles.

the windsheild one is pretty simple - up top, centered.

- make sure you surface is CLEAN. wash it GOOD. then dry it and wash it with rubbing alcohol to make sure everything is stripped down clean.

- mix up a spray bottle with water and some car wash soap. spray down the area where the decal will go. remove the backing paper from the decal. i like to put a light mist on the decal itself also. doing this will allow you to lightly lay the decal on the paint - and still allow you to adjudst it to get it posistioned correctly.

- once you have it positioned where you want it, start pressing the decal down. start in the center with your finger, start with a light touch and then get harder. press the decal on and the water out. then progress up to a squegee and use that to press the decal down and squeeze all the water and air bubbles out.

- carefully remove the transfer tape from the decal.

- carefully check for any air bubbles and try to gently work them out. don't worry if you can't get them all. once you are done - sit the car in the sun for a day - that will remove almost any airbubbles that you couldn't get out.

if you still have bubbles after that, you can take a fine needle and carefully "pop" the bubbles just a slight pick and then hit them with the squeegee and they should disappear.

After this step, I found that if you use a hair dryer ON MEDIUM, not high, and use it to evaporate alot of the water, the backing will peal off easier without having the corners of the letters coming up.
