Denso "lead proof" O2's...how are they holding up?

Put one in the race car couple weeks ago and only have 6 or so runs with Sunoco Maxmal 116. In the past, just that few runs would make stock O2 readings questionable.

So far, readings seem valid, 775-800 on the Scanmaster. Will update, as we should be running every week for a while.

Also, Denso is sending me a set of their new spark plugs to try out as leaded gas kills plugs in a hurry too!

Plugs?

Never heard that leaded gas kills plugs. Back when (almost) all gas was leaded, plugs didn't seem to go away any faster than they do now, assuming good ignition. It seems reasonable, just never heard it before.

No, not yet. When they arrive will let you know both #'s for iron heads and alum.

Yeah, but back in those days, we were not running 30 psi boost! Carbs and 13 to 1 compression was easier on LOTS of things, especially the wallet.:D

02 sensor

Whee do you buy these Denso sensors?Do you have a part number?Bruce

Nick, who handles these in the Boise area, any idea? I called 3 of my suppliers and they had no clue, thanks, Ron

denso oxygen sensor

Mine is still in the box:rolleyes: I just haven't had time to put it in or drive my car.:( thanks Nick for keeping us updated on these and i am interested in these spark plugs too................thanks:)

Monarch...aka, "spark plugs.com" has the O2 sensor in question; $26 shipped to your door.

Thanks for the input Nick, I just got mine today and will not get a chance to abuse it untill spring 2003.

Nick Micale

I'm very interested in the Denso iridium plugs.
Please post your results.
At $12 they're pricy, but are they worth the $$?
How do they compare to NGK?
TIA

02 sensor

I am putting mine in this weekend and finally drive the car a little so i will let you all know how it works. I only run sonoco 114 in the car so it should be a good test..................................Bob

So far the performance of the Denso O2 sensor has been fine. Only had it to the track 3 times since install and it is still working. This is much longer than any single wire one has withstood a steady diet of Sunoco 116 octane! This has been through a severe "rich" tuning stage with an all new combo. We have a club racing day Jan 26 where it will see many "tuning" runs which will be recorded w/direct scan also. That should provide lots of good info.

Still waiting for the arrival of Denso iridum plugs for this motor. A few local racers are going with them especially in turbo applications.

huh.. Years ago with leaded gas my old big block chevys would go through a set of plugs every 5,000 miles or so. Less of I raced a lot (and I raced a lot). And to make matters worst if you wanted to race after an afternoon of crusing you had to make a "clean out run" just to get the carbon/crap buildup off your plugs. Maybe that was before some of you remember. When cars started using unleaded gas the mileage on plugs increased dramatically.

These new 02s may be what we have a needed for a long time.(of course i'm not even running an 02

Are these new o2 sensorts heated or are they just made of a different material? Just curious if they are just a direct change out or not....

single wire

Eric they are not heated and are a direct replacement. Just put mine in today:eek: Took a bosch out that had already begun to get slow. the denso is very active right now so i will keep an eye on it and let ya'll know how it does...........................:) Bob
