Is there any advantages to upgrading to a Denso Supra Pump (195130-1020) from a good working Walbro pump. Are the flow numbers any better on a Denso compared to a Walbro? I also know there has been a lot of problems with the new Walbro. I was thinking double pumper but I hate to use two bad Walbro pumps. I am getting close to the Walbro pump limits with my car. My car has gone 10.29 @ 128 mph and I need to make a change. Will one Denso Supra pump do the trick or should I do a Denso Double Pumper. Is there anyone out there working on a Denso Double Pumper setup?

From what I gather, they are more stable. I believe the flow and psi have a taller curve for the same volts given, compared to a Walbro. Some guys are running into problems of having too much fuel psi. Also upgrade the wire going to the pump, the stock wire WILL NOT handle the Denso's current draw.

Denso Pump

So the aftermarket hotwire kit will not do the job for a Denso Supra pump. You must run a new hot wire all the way to the altenator? What guage wire? Is anyone working on a dual intank Denso Supra pump setup? I also heard if you are running a dual Denso Supra pump setup you must run two wires to the altenator??? I have seen triple intank pumps for the Supras but they are very costly.

No to your first question. The hot wire kit will be ok, BUT the stock 14 guage wire going from the sending unit to the pump will burn up. I think Racetronix makes a plug and play for the Supra pump. 10 guage wire will feed the pump well. 3 supra pumps wont fit in the tank, unless you plan on making 1200hp's dont worry about it ;) . I think 1 Denso should be enough to support your setup. I dont have a Supra pump, but I ran a 10 guage wire through the sending unit to the pump.

Denso vs Walbro

I talked to Racetronics today and they are out of the harness for the Denso Supra Pump. Is it hard to make one? Is it worth upgrading to the Supra pump considering such a little gain? My Walbro 340 pump is doing the job but I am sure I am on the edge. What is the limit of the Denso Supra Pump?

I kindda "rigged" mine  , but it still works at the end of the day. Like I said, I dont have a Denso. This is what I did http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/how-tos/272586-hot-wire-upgrade.html I havent gotten around to make the "bulkhead" with the nylon nut and bolt yet, but I do have nylon nuts and bolts to make them.

Denso vs Walbro

Thanks for the link. I like the nylon nut and bolt idea. Does the Denso Supra pump take a different plug then the Walbro? Is the Denso Supra Pump upgrade going to be worth the hassle and the money? I have seen some graphs and flow charts but I am still a little concerned with the data. The flow with the Denso doesn't look much better then the Walbro. I have also been checking on a double pumper setup but no one seems to have one of those in stock either!!! I guess my luck has come to an end.

If you run 75 psi fuel pressure and higher, the walbro will have more flow, roughly 2-3 gph. If you run 70 psi fuel pressure and lower, the denso has more flow, roughly 2-4 gph.

Denso

There have been so many problems with Walbro pumps, its like living on borrowed time. Do a search on Supra/Denso pumps those guys are fly n with those pumps. I had a Walbro in my TSI Talon and it was so noisy, i put a Denso back in and its running good, plus it is very quiet compared to the NOISY WALBRO... No more loud BUZZING.

There is a considerable thread on the supra pump. My .02 cents, well worth the upgrade for peace of mind. I ran one in my Buick for a short time but had the most use in my GSX Eclipse. Six years and no issues, sold the car with the pump and as far as I know - still working supporting over 400 hp.

Denso Supra Harness

I want to go with either the Denso Supra Pump and Harness or a Double Pumper Setup. The problem is Racetronics is out of the harnesses for the Denso pump and no one seems to have or want to sell a double pumper setup. Should I make my own Denso harness or my make own double pumper. I have an old ATR double pumper coupler but don't have the harness or hobbs switch. Any suggestions?

Who said we were out of stock on the Denso harness?

Racetronix - G7 In-tank & Intermediate Harness Kit - Kit Configuration Page

We will have more DP harnesses later within apx. 4-6 weeks.

Harness

I guess I misunderstood your email.
F20000169 was problem pump. GSS340M which we carry was not. No issue with Walbro. Can not fit two Denso pumps side-by-side in tank. Only GSS340M will JUST fit.
Check around TurboBuick.Com - The World Wide Web under BOOST! - Buick Grand National, GNX, T-Type for info on dual systems. We have a harness solution but they are sold out / ETA late Aug / Sept.
Single harness is not designed recommended for two pumps. Each pump MUST be on its own fused circuit.
I thought you were talking about the Denso harness. You must be out of the double pumper harnesses? Is it your opinion that a Denso pump doesn't flow much more than a Walbro or that it isn't worth the time and money to put a Denso in a good working single Walbro system for the gain? Thanks for your reply and input!

Unless your Walbro is dead there is not enough gain to justify replacing it with a Denso. You would be better off spending your $ on a dual system or an in-line pump.

What if you have to change your pump anyways, would you recommend the denso over the walbro? What are the price differences.

The only way to get a Double Denso Supra pump into the tank is to have one oriented horizontally and one vertically they will not go into the tank access side by side.
The Denso is a superior pump than the Walbro:
1 year no hassle manufactuer warranty included.
Add a Volt booster and it blows the Walbro away in Lph.
Spotless record for the import performance crowd.
Quiet.

Walbro 307 was a great pump
340s were pretty much the same-- the F169 is where Walbro sold out and screwed the public. Who trusts them anymore? I dont.
Its worth the extra effort to run the heavier wiring to the denso and it should be decades until you have to worry about it.
Southwire makes good oil and gasoline resistant wire and wou can make your own bulkhead using the above mentioned method.

Ah. The last two posts are both very compelling... I was convinced by the 2nd to last one, till I read the last one lol.... Who has the denso's for sale. I'd like to price them out.

Actually the base design of the Denso is older tech. Walbro held the patent on gerotor pumps up until a few years ago. If Walbro had a pump with the same OD as the Denso with gears the size of the Denso's discs it would outperform it by a wide margin. Walbro has the highest output given its size. The Walbro pumps gain a substantial amount of flow with increase in supply voltage as well. The Walbro pumps outsell the Denso pumps at least 100:1. There are literally hundreds of thousands of Walbro HP pumps in operation now. Walbro had a very liberal no-hassle warranty for the better part of 20 years (until 2004). Customers grossly abused this program. Customers were asking for new pumps as a method to diagnose unrelated fueling issues either b/c they lacked the skill + tools to properly diagnose them or b/c of laziness. Walbro tested a large quantity of these returned pumps and found 98% of them were OK. Of the 2% that had failed most were due to various types of abuse. Everybody wants the lowest price possible these days. When Walbro pumps were $150-$200 retail like the Denso, distribution could afford to eat 1 in 10 pumps and still make a good margin on them. That is why you can still get warranty on some BBK and Holley branded Walbro pumps. When you are charging $30-$100 more for the same pump it is very easy to offer a liberal warranty program. Since most vendors charge $100 or less for a 255LPH pump there is not enough margin to eat these pumps. So the bottom line is that you are paying a large amount of money for this warranty but the reality is that based on the numbers sold Walbro failures are still extremely low.

That being said I do not agree with the way Walbro handled the problem with the F20000169 pumps. IMO there are some serious internal management problems at TI aftermarket which allowed this problem to occur and fester in the first place. This is the first time we have seen a production problem from Walbro and I am sure they have learned a hard lesson from it. I suspect it would be another 20 years before we see another problem assuming they do not move the production line to China. Thankfully Racetronix only sold the GSS340M so our customers were not affected by the defect. We randomly check pumps from various production lots to help prevent this from happening here.

IMO Walbro pumps still provide the best value for the $. I have had two in my GN for close to 20 years now.
