Got a bottle of dexcool in the garage. Regal needs to have the coolant flushed. Any opinion on this stuff? Got it for free so........... Since I live in Hawaii and no chance of freezing.......should I run a lower mix or straight water with some rust inhibitor?

Most will tell you run some RMI-25 coolant treatment and straight water. Works down here in Louisiana. We had a couple of below freezing nights this month, so I had to park inside the garage for a couple of nights.

Please run away from the DexCool!! Unless you'd like a "muddy" mess in your cooling system.

^What he said. Since you will never see a freeze, flush and fill with distilled water and the RMI-25. I also put in a bottle of water wetter. But when winter comes, I switch to Prestone and distilled ....50/50 mix.

Agreed but for a different reason. If you still have a soldered radiator in the GN Dexcool will leach the solder out of the joints.

Run away! Dexcool is horrible stuff. I could go on and on but pain in the butt typing on iPad. I was not logged in and saw this and had to chime in. Look up an article from motor age magazine from about 8 years ago called coolant confusion. Dexcool also softens some plastics. When I bought my 02 Monte Carlo ss the first weekend I had it I drained the block and radiator to get rid of the Dexcool. STAY AWAY!

No one mentions that with antifreeze or "coolant" in the system, the car will run hotter than with plain water.

With RMI-25 it will run even cooler with plain water or antifreeze since it contains a surficant to break down tension between the liquid and the metal surfaces as well as protecting the entire cooling system. :)

No need to add water wetter since RMI-25 does what water wetter does with additional features.

So, Nick, what you're saying is I can put the RMI-25 in WITH Prestone antifreeze with no problems and it'll run cooler? It gets down to 12-15 degrees around here sometimes. I got some RM!-25 from Mark H. and would like to add it to the antifreeze.....can't use regular water around here, too cold in the winter, though the car IS garaged.

As to a 50-50 coolant mix, should I used distilled water, tap water or spring water? Our tap water is run through a water softener system since lots of minerals are in our water table out here in the sticks, so we used bottled water to drink, and the softener system water for all other uses. It has a high salt content. My wife has very high blood pressure problems, so she's not supposed to drink the tap water, as it will raise her blood pressure........just to state water situation around here.

So, help me out here, Nick, what's the correct water should I use? I have always trusted your judgment.
Thanks, kindly.

Dissolved solids in the tap water (mostly calcium and magnesium where I live) will both drop out of the water when it is heated. That scale is something you do not want in your cooling system. If you use distilled water, it has zero dissolved solids and will not deposit scale. It is more corrosive however, so you need the RMI-25 or other protect-ant to prevent corrosion.

And yes, the RMI-25 is compatible with all anti freeze, according to the label.

Hope I can find some RMI25 here in Hawaii. Seen 8oz and 1qt options. What size is needed for one application?
Gonna try to find a reverse flush kit. I have put them on all my old TBs. Any opinions on Flush additives?

RMI-25 is good stuff. I couldn't find it locally last year when I was looking so I just ordered it online. 8oz is good for one treatment but depending how much crud is in your radiator you might have to flush the crud out and add more after a few hundred miles.

It is a better buy if you get the quart size. says to use it every 15K miles or 300 hrs. I do it once a year...

RMI-25 is available at Redline Automotive 918 Waiakamilo Rd
Honolulu, HI 96817 They are next to Ifuku Radiator.
I have not been there in a while but I would think they still have it.

Redline Automotive got bought out by NAPA. They don't carry it, unfortunately.

Dexcool is hard on seals I'm told. Replaced a water pump on a cavalier with bad shaft seal that was running dex.

Any input on the evans waterless? (other than expensive)

Contact Nick Micale, he has RMI-25 and this spring coming I will be getting another supply from him great stuff, and I don't use anti-freeze, just distilled water and RMI-25.

Keep forgetting about redline. Need to check them out.....not just for rmi25. Guess I can wait on the coolant flush till I order it online. How bout flush products?
