I had the chip out because I was trying to identify what kind of chip it was since it was not a stock chip.
BY MISTAKE....I started the engine without the chip. it ran for about 3 seconds and stalled.
then I tried to crank it but it would not start. finally I realized that I forgot to reinstall the chip.

I installed the chip and waited about 20 minutes then I tried to restart the car and it just cranks. I checked and have no fuel at the rail at all. the car has fuel in the tank.

has anyone ever heard of an ecu blowing up from starting it without the chip?
the car still recognizes the ecu because I always had a cel light on and when I plug in the ecu the cel comes on and goes off when I unplug it. when I remove the chip the cel just lightly flickers.
all fuses are good. car never did this till I made this mistake. but I wanna make sure its the ecu before I buy a new one.
thanks

Did you try unplugging the power to the ecm to reset it? Orange wire on the positive battery cable.

The car will start and run without a chip.

Had a customer that figured the car would not start if he removed the chip, but the car ran good enough for the thief to get across town. :(

Damn. Wow I wonder why my car won't send fuel to the rail.

Could your chip maybe have a security feature programmed into it?? I know you were trying to identify the chip but it's possible it has an anti theft feature which is now activated, hence no fuel. Try a stock chip or just take the chip out and see if it starts.

I wish I had a stock chip to test it against. the car started after I let it sit for about 5 hours. I let it warm up so I could do another compression test. after I put it all back together again it wouldn't start again (no power signal to the pump again).
I had this same problem wit my 3000gt vr4 and it turned out to be leaking capacitors in my ecu. so im not sure what to do it this point. it works when it wants to. lol

"Did I just blow my ecm?"

Let's hope it bought you some dinner and drinks before you did.......:D

Where you at? Maybe someone could let you test your car with their ECM. Instead of disconnecting the orange wire just unplug the ecm.

I have 3 87 Buick in the Bronx if you can make it there, I could take some parts out to try it on your car to see if which parts is bad, then you can go from there
