I ordered a set of 1.65 Rollers from Champion. We go to put them on the car and it's got a notice to installer page and down thru the verbage it basically says your heads have to be machined. Sure enough the towers aren't deep enough and the rocker won't swivel.

So i've bought these, valve cover spacers, and new pushrods for nothing, now i've got to get my money back.

Why wouldn't they tell me in advance the heads needed machining???:(

[soon to be deleted post] Sounds like you got hosed. I would imagine that anything like that that wasn't a simple bolt on would be clearly noted by the vendor on the website, catalog, and on the phone when ordering to make sure that the buyer knows what he/she is getting into. I'm not ragging on them or any vendor, i'm just venting my frustrastion. it ruined my day:(

Hopefully Sunday we'll get the car back together. I was wanting to get away from those mickey mouse adjustable pushrods and now I guess i'm stuck with them cause I DON'T want to open the motor or pull the heads and go deep to all that trouble.

I can't find in ANY vendors catalogs where it mentions anything about the heads needing machining but on the CH site, (I just looked @ it) it says for their iron heads "machined clearance on rocker pedestals to clear aftermarket T&D shaft rocker assemblies" I just looked it up. I called on the phone to order on Tuesday, they was very nice and told me i'd have my parts by Thursday (regular shipping) and I did.

My heads was worked by CH in '95. Oh well.....

Why would he be "hosed" because of a simple mod to the heads to fit an aftermarket race part on a stock motor?

This has been discussed here many times, and the mod can be done with the heads on the car. A grinder can be used to clearance the pedestals. Not much has to be removed.

I thought about grinding them while still on the car. With my luck, i'd end up with metal shavings getting down in the motor. I have the WORST luck of anyone. My buddy was afraid to try it also.

Thanks though...:)

Remove the pushrods and plug the holes as well as the oil drain-back holes. Do the grinding and clean up with a magnet and rags.

forgot the brake cleaner to dry the oil up on the head to start with so the shavings dont stick

shop vac hose right by the grinding helps catch most of it too
