I know this is going to bring on fierce 'conversation' in here, so I'm ready for it, but I just felt like expressing my opinion of what has happened in the latest page of the Palestine/Isreal conflict.
First off, let me say that I'm really not a fan of either. I agree and disagree with many points on both sides. But last night (this morning in Isreal) an Isreali helicopter fired missiles on and killed the senior leader of Hamas. This man (as CNN explains) was the spiritual leader and founder of Hamas. Now, I don't agree with Hamas' tactics. They are terrorists without a doubt. But I also think that Isreal made a mistake here and may have really opened up Pandora's box.
Do I have sympathy for this man who died? No. You live by the sword, you die by it. My basic respects only for the dead. But now that Isreal has gone this far, I really can't help but wonder if they bit off more then they can chew this time.
I tend to think about interviews that were done with the Japanese pilots after Pearl Harbor. Upon flying back, they said they knew that they had started something really bad. Germany underestimated what America would do when they torpedoed boats in transit to and from England. I think Isreal has just done the same with Palestine.
Does this mean I condone the suicide bombings and future terrorism from the Palestinians? No. Do I hope for peaceful negotiations and resolve in this conflict. Always. Do I think Isreal has helped that? Not in a million years.
So, bring on the conversation. I figured, I'd open my own Pandora's box with this one.
